Mars: Upper Atmosphere

Science, 1966
The thermal structure of the upper atmosphere of Mars has been theoretically investigated. The exospheric temperature, for a pure CO 2 model atmosphere, lies between 400° and 700°K. The origin of the Martian atmosphere is discussed in the light of these results.

Upper atmospheric nomenclature

Journal of Atmospheric and Terrestrial Physics, 1950
It is proposed that stratosphere shall signify solely the nearly isothermal region above the troposphere; that the layer between the stratosphere and the deep temperature minimum somewhat below 100 km be called the mesosphere; that the layer of rising temperature over this minimum be called the thermosphere.
