Oceanographic analysis of orbital photographs of the upper gulf of California

Photogrammetria, 1973
Abstract Examination of forty-one black and white and color photographs of the upper portion of the Gulf of California obtained during the Gemini and Apollo space missions revealed that hyperaltitude photography of the sea surface can be applied effectively to oceanographic research.

Endangered Species and Precarious Lives in the Upper Gulf of California

Culture & Agriculture, 1997
From a hilltop overlooking the community of Puerto Penasco, Mexican President Carlos Salinas de Gortari decreed a million-hectare biosphere reserve for the upper Gulf of California and the delta of the Colorado River. Assembled with him on the podium in June of 1993 were the governors of Sonora, Baja California, and Arizona, U.S.

Artisanal Shrimp Fishing in the Biosphere Reserve of the Upper Gulf of California

Crustaceana, 2009
Shrimp is the most important marine resource for the three communities of the Upper Gulf of California (UGC): San Felipe in the state of Baja California, and Golfo de Santa Clara and Puerto Penasco in the state of Sonora. This fishery generates 80% of the profits in the region. A fishery tendency analysis was made from 1996 to 2007 in the UGC.

Distribution of Penaeid Shrimp Larvae and Postlarvae in the Upper Gulf of California

Crustaceana, 2010
This study describes the distribution pattern of penaeid shrimp larvae and postlarvae in the Upper Gulf of California (UGC) to confirm the trajectories of early stage penaeid shrimp seeking nursery areas, as described by mathematical models. A research cruise was used to sample the total area of the UGC during the major spawning season.

Response of the shrimp population in the Upper Gulf of California to fluctuations in discharges of the Colorado River

Crustaceana, 2009
Since 1935, the freshwater discharge from the Colorado River into the Gulf of California has decreased drastically, affecting the biological cycles of endemic species and other endangered species. In this study, a relationship was determined between the Colorado River freshwater discharge, the abundance of blue shrimp, Litopenaeus stylirostris ...

The Colorado River Estuary and Upper Gulf of California, Baja, Mexico

2001
Since the times of early explorers the Gulf of California has been described as an area of high fertility (Leon-Portilla 1972), owing mainly to tidal mixing and upwelling processes (Alvarez-Borrego et al. 1978).The shallow northernmost part of the Gulf, the Upper Gulf of California, and the Colorado River delta are an area of reproduction and nursery ...

Tidal and atmospheric forcing of the upper ocean in the Gulf of California: 2. Surface heat flux

Journal of Geophysical Research: Oceans, 1993
Satellite infrared imagery and coastal meteorological data for March 1984 through February 1985 are used to estimate the net annual surface heat flux for the northern Gulf of California. The average annual surface heat flux for the area north of Guaymas and Santa Rosalia is estimated to be +74 W m−2 for the 1984–1985 time period.
