Variations in downslope activity and bottom current dynamics in a land‐detached submarine channel system since the Last Glacial Maximum

open access: yesSedimentology, Volume 73, Issue 3, Page 620-644, April 2026.
ABSTRACT The Gollum Channel System is a land‐detached large‐scale canyon‐channel system situated offshore southwest Ireland on the Northeast Atlantic margin. The system has been considered inactive with downslope gravity flows since the last glacial period, but geophysical data in some of its branches do suggest Holocene activity.

The making of pure quartzose sand in continental interiors: Paraná River (Brazil and Argentina)

open access: yesSedimentology, Volume 73, Issue 3, Page 802-837, April 2026.
ABSTRACT As part of a comprehensive project on sedimentary processes in South America, this study focuses on sediment generation in the intracratonic Paraná Basin and monitors the evolution of sand composition along the Paraná River from central Brazil to the Río de la Plata estuary in Argentina.

Box Models of Volatile Cycles over the Entire Phanerozoic [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Three stand-alone geochemical box models have been developed to simulate globally coupled biogeochemical cycles. These models reflect the evolution of the participating biotic and abiotic constituents in marine and terrestrial environments, including the

Phylogenomics illuminates the complex evolutionary history of Bibionomorpha (Diptera)

open access: yesSystematic Entomology, Volume 51, Issue 2, April‐June 2026.
Phylogenomics supports Bibionomorpha (Anisopodoidea, Bibionoidea, Scatopsoidea, Sciaroidea) as a sister to Brachycera, and Axymyiidae and Perissommatidae as a sister to Bibionomorpha + Brachycera. Phylogenetic network analysis tentatively suggests a possible reticulation leading to Bolitophilidae, and mitochondrial data support sex‐specific ...

Long‐Term Storage of Meteoric Water in the Variscan Basement: Stable Isotope Constraints (δD–δ18O)

open access: yesTerra Nova, Volume 38, Issue 2, Page 116-123, April 2026.
ABSTRACT F‐Ba‐Pb‐Zn (±Ag) deposits near the unconformity between the Armorican and Aquitaine basins formed by mixing surface waters and brines with fluid ascending from the basement. To better constrain the source of this fluid and the conditions of mixing, we analyzed the hydrogen (δDwater) and oxygen (δ18Owater) isotopic composition of water trapped ...

Radar Specularity Content Indicates a Strong Geothermal Heat Flow Gradient in Antarctica's South Pole Basin

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 5, 16 March 2026.
Abstract Accurate estimates of geothermal heat flow (GHF) are critical for predicting basal melting and identifying stable sites for ancient ice, yet GHF remains one of the least constrained boundary conditions for the Antarctic Ice Sheet. We evaluate nine published Antarctic GHF models against radar‐derived specularity content in the South Pole Basin (
