Modeling Immune Evasion and Vaccine Limitations by Targeted Nasopharyngeal Bordetella pertussis Inoculation in Mice

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2021
Conventional pertussis animal models deliver hundreds of thousands of Bordetella pertussis bacteria deep into the lungs, rapidly inducing severe pneumonic pathology and a robust immune response.

Influenza Vaccination Responses in Disabled Stroke Patients: A Single‐Center Prospective Observational Study

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective This study aimed to investigate the immunological response to influenza vaccination, the incidence and severity of influenza infection, and the side effects of the vaccination in patients with ischemic stroke. Methods This prospective observational study was conducted between 2023 and 2024 at Ramathibodi Hospital.

Real‐World Safety and Effectiveness of JAK Inhibitors in Systemic Sclerosis: A Propensity‐Matched Study from the EUSTAR Cohort

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, Accepted Article.
Objective JAK inhibitors (JAKis) have shown promising effects in early‐phase studies of SSc. We aimed to assess the safety and explore effectiveness of JAKis compared to conventional immunosuppressants in SSc. Methods A longitudinal retrospective study of the EUSTAR cohort was performed.

Asymptomatic COVID-19 Adult Outpatients identified as Significant Viable SARS-CoV-2 Shedders

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
Differential kinetics of RNA loads and infectious viral levels in the upper respiratory tract between asymptomatic and symptomatic SARS-CoV-2 infected adult outpatients remain unclear limiting recommendations that may guide clinical management, infection

Rapid Fabrication of Self‐Propelled and Steerable Magnetic Microcatheters for Precision Medicine

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A rapid Joule heating fabrication method for the production of self‐propelling, adaptive microcatheters, with tunable stiffness and integrated microfluidic channels is presented. Demonstrated through three microrobotic designs, including a steerable guiding catheter, an untethered wave‐crawling TubeBot, and a distal‐end propelled microcatheter, it was ...

Viral Infection‐Inspired Autonomous Detection of Fusion‐Competent Viruses for Screening and Environmental Surveillance

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Inspired by viral entry mechanisms, the FUSION assay enables autonomous detection of respiratory viruses via membrane fusion–triggered CRISPR‐Cas13a activation. VEACON selectively fuses with fusion‐competent viruses, triggering fluorescence within confined vesicles.

Dual‐Functional Ingestible Passive Capsules for High‐Throughput Intestinal Sampling with Sealed Containment and Targeted Drug Delivery

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
To address challenges in high‐throughput intestinal sampling with sealed containment and target drug delivery, we developed a dual‐functional ingestible passive capsule with a dual‐triggered control system based on pH‐response and mechanical actuation.

Social networks in relation to self-reported symptomatic infections in individuals aged 40–75 - the Maastricht study –

open access: yesBMC Infectious Diseases, 2018
Background Most infections are spread through social networks (detrimental effect). However, social networks may also lower infection acquisition (beneficial effect).

The KIF6‐RBP Complex Orchestrates mRNA Transport Required for Sperm Flagellar Assembly

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Two homozygous deleterious KIF6 variants are identified in unrelated men with impaired sperm motility. Mouse models and multi‐omics analyses reveal that KIF6 cooperates with the RNA‐binding proteins FMRP and FXR1 to deliver mRNAs essential for sperm flagellar assembly, linking disrupted mRNA transport to reduced abundance of key structural and ...

Decoding the distribution of glycan receptors for human-adapted influenza A viruses in ferret respiratory tract. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
Ferrets are widely used as animal models for studying influenza A viral pathogenesis and transmissibility. Human-adapted influenza A viruses primarily target the upper respiratory tract in humans (infection of the lower respiratory tract is observed less
