Nonoperative management of upper thoracic spine fractures.
Orthopaedic review, 1995We attempted to determine if nonsurgical treatment could be successful in treating instability of upper thoracic spine fractures, which may receive some stabilization and splinting from the ribs. From 1966 to 1989, the records of all patients treated at Rancho Los Amigos Medical Center for fractures from T-1 to T-8 were reviewed.

Unusual course of an epidural rhabdomyosarcoma of the upper thoracic spine
Acta Neurochirurgica, 1995This report deals with a case of rhabdomyosarcoma in the upper thoracic spine. It is of particular interest, not only for the rarity of type and location of this tumour, but for its clinical course, which presented fluctuations of neurological status, included an acute demonstration of complete paraplegia followed by full recovery after conservative ...

Anterior transsternal approach to the upper thoracic spine.
Acta chirurgica Hungarica, 1999Cervicothoracic junction and upper thoracic spine down to T4 can be reached through anterior approach via sternotomy. Transsternal approach is the best route to gain access to lesions localized within vertebral bodies of the upper thoracic spine allowing for their resection, interbody fusion and replacement with bone cement.

Modified Pawlow projection for the upper thoracic spine.
Radiologic technology, 1997Adequate visualization of the upper thoracic spine can be difficult using conventional lateral projection techniques. This article describes a modified Pawlow projection that uses the cephalad angle instead of the caudal angle. Sample radiographs are provided to illustrate the advantages of using this modified projection.
