Languages at key stage 4 2009-2011 : evaluation of the impact of Languages Review recommendations : baseline findings from the first year of the evaluation [PDF]
• Heads of language departments consider good teaching and support to be central to encouraging language uptake at KS4, and constraints of the options system to be the main barrier.

Fatty-acid uptake in prostate cancer cells using dynamic microfluidic raman technology [PDF]
It is known that intake of dietary fatty acid (FA) is strongly correlated with prostate cancer progression but is highly dependent on the type of FAs. High levels of palmitic acid (PA) or arachidonic acid (AA) can stimulate the progression of cancer.

Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Mitochondrial remodeling shapes neural and glial lineage progression by matching metabolic supply with demand. Elevated OXPHOS supports differentiation and myelin formation, while myelin compaction lowers mitochondrial dependence, revealing mitochondria as key drivers of developmental energy adaptation.

Brain damage following whooping cough vaccination : is it time to lay the myth to rest? [PDF]
Whooping cough causes significant morbidity and mortality, especially in early infancy. Although an effective vaccine exists, vaccine uptake in Malta was previously disappointing due to the general public’s and the medical community’s doubts regarding ...

Dissolved organic carbon uptake in streams: A review and assessment of reach‐scale measurements [PDF]
Quantifying the role that freshwater ecosystems play in the global carbon cycle requires accurate measurement and scaling of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) removal in river networks.

An isoform of 14‐3‐3 protein regulates transbilayer lipid movement at the plasma membrane
Loss of 14‐3‐3ζ in CHO cells confers resistance to exogenous phosphatidylserine (PS) and impairs endocytosis‐independent inward flip‐flop of fluorescent PS at the plasma membrane. RNAi‐mediated knockdown reproduces this defect, while no additive effect is seen in ATP11C‐deficient cells.

Studies on plants that hyperaccumulate copper, cobalt and nickel : their potential for use in phytomining and phytoremediation : a thesis presented in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Masterate of Science in Soil Science at Massey University [PDF]
This thesis reviews three lines of research on hyperaccumulators to examine their potential for phytoremediation and phytomining. The first line of research was to test the affect of nutrient addition on biomass and nickel uptake by two nickel ...

Canopy uptake dominates nighttime carbonyl sulfide fluxes in a boreal forest [PDF]
Nighttime vegetative uptake of carbonyl sulfide (COS) can exist due to the incomplete closure of stomata and the light independence of the enzyme carbonic anhydrase, which complicates the use of COS as a tracer for gross primary productivity (GPP).
