Limb imaging of the Venus O2 visible nightglow with the Venus Monitoring Camera

open access: yes, 2013
We investigated the Venus O2 visible nightglow with imagery from the Venus Monitoring Camera on Venus Express. Drawing from data collected between April 2007 and January 2011, we study the global distribution of this emission, discovered in the late 70s ...

Evidence for a direct band gap in the topological insulator Bi2Se3 from theory and experiment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Using angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy and ab-initio GW calculations, we unambiguously show that the widely investigated three-dimensional topological insulator Bi2Se3 has a direct band gap at the Gamma point.

Ammonium Salts as Curing Agents to Obtain Ionic Epoxy Resins With a Thermoplastic‐to‐Thermoset Transition

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Ionic epoxy networks are prepared using ammonium salts as hardeners, leading to a two‐stage curing process with a thermoplastic‐like intermediate. This uncommon behavior enables extrusion and fabrication of thermoplastic prepregs that can be cured into thermoset composites.

Field Trials for the Empirical Characterization of the Low Voltage Grid Access Impedance From 35 kHz to 500 kHz [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The access impedance of low-voltage (LV) power networks is a major factor related to the performance of the narrow-band power line communications (NB-PLCs) and, in a wider sense, to electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) performance.

Eutectozymes as Soft Hybrid Materials for Advanced Biocatalysis

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Eutectozymes are sustainable hybrid materials that embed a GOx–HRP cascade within hydrophobic eutectogels featuring a dual supramolecular–covalent network. This architecture preserves native enzyme structure and stability, enables efficient heterogeneous biocatalysis in aqueous media, and positions eutectogels as robust platforms for next‐generation ...

High Charge Carrier Mobility in Non‐Conjugated 3D Covalent Organic Frameworks

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A non‐conjugated 3D COF constructed via boronate ester linkages from tetraphenylene and pyrene‐based monomers is reported, which exhibits a high charge carrier mobility of 14 ± 1 cm2 V−1 s−1. ABSTRACT π‐Conjugation, π–π stacking, and long‐range order play a central role in determining charge transport efficiency in organic materials.

Comparative assessment of non-destructive evaluation methods for monitoring concrete water reservoirs – A case study

open access: yesCase Studies in Construction Materials
The long-term durability of reinforced concrete water reservoirs (RCWRs) is challenged by environmental exposure that accelerates physical and chemical deterioration. Visual inspections, while common, are subjective and often identify damage late.

Real options, patents, productivity and market value: evidence from a panel of UK firms [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
Patents citations are a potentially powerful indicator of technological innovation. In this paper we describe the IFS-Leverhulme patents dataset that we have constructed by combining information from the US Case-Western Patent database with UK company ...

3D Printed PEDOT:PSS‐Based Lattice Pressure Sensors With Tunable Electromechanical Response

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
poly(3,4‐ethylenedioxythiophene): polystyrene sulfonate (PEDOT:PSS)‐based architected lattices are fabricated via single‐step Digital Light Processing (DLP) printing for tunable pressure sensing. Structural design variations allow precise control of sensitivity and range, while integrated conductivity eliminates post‐processing.
