STADTMITTE UMSTEIGEN? HEINZ KNOBLOCH AND THE ‘ARCHAEOLOGICAL’ TRACES OF BERLIN'S GHOST STATIONS

open access: yesGerman Life and Letters, Volume 78, Issue 4, Page 527-543, October 2025.
ABSTRACT In 1982, the East German journalist Heinz Knobloch published a volume entitled Stadtmitte umsteigen. Its title was provocative: since the construction of the Berlin Wall, it had not been possible to change trains at Stadtmitte in East Berlin, as one of the two lines functioned only as a transit route between the north and south of West Berlin.

Determination of the real exchange rate of rouble and assessment of long-rum policy of real exchange rate targeting [PDF]

open access: yes
The equilibrium real exchange rate of Russian ruble is estimated for the period from the beginning of 1995 to the beginning of 2008. According to the methodological approach proposed by Edwards (1988) the equilibrium real exchange rate is a function of a

A thinner jacket for frosty and windy climates? Global patterns in leaf cuticle thickness and its environmental associations

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 248, Issue 1, Page 107-124, October 2025.
Summary Plant cuticles protect the interior tissues from ambient hazards, including desiccation, UV light, physical wear, herbivores and pathogens. Consequently, cuticle properties are shaped by evolutionary selection. We compiled a global dataset of leaf cuticle thickness (CT) and accompanying leaf traits for 1212 species, mostly angiosperms, from 293

Instant and Delayed Effects of Autumn Black Carbon Aerosols Over South Asia on Arctic and Eurasian Surface Air Temperature

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 52, Issue 18, 28 September 2025.
Abstract Black carbon (BC) aerosols can affect both local and remote long‐term climate, but whether they can induce remote changes at short‐term timescales is unclear. Through analyses of observations and time‐slice model simulations, this study shows that South Asian autumn BC aerosols can cause instant and delayed responses of surface air temperature
