Analytica Chimica Acta, 1958Abstract A rapid and precise method has been developed for the determination of uranium in uranium hexafluoride material that contains essentially no non-volatile impurities. Approximately 7 g of uranium hexafluoride is transferred into a tared fluorothene tube, weighed, frozen, and hydrolyzed in 150 ml of ice-cold water in a platinum dish.

Journal of Inorganic and Nuclear Chemistry, 1975Abstract The reaction of UF 4 with UN at 950°C yields UF 3 or UNF depending on the mixing ratio; the product is UF 3 for the UF 4 :UN ratio of 3:1, and UNF for 1:3. The reaction is generally expressed as x UF 4 (s)+y UN (s) → 3x − y 2 UF 3 (s)+ 3y−x 2 UNF(s)+ x−y 4 N 2 (g) .

Uranium-xenon and uranium-krypton dating
1997Uranium undergoes spontaneous fission as well as radioactive α-decay and this produces fissiogenic Xe and Kr which accumulate in U-bearing minerals through geological time. The proposal to use these for determining the age of such minerals was made as early as 1947 when Khlopin, Gerling and Baronovskaya discovered Xe produced by the spontaneous fission
