A Density Functional Study of O2 Adsorption on (100) Surface of gamma-Uranium [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
We have studied the chemisorption processes of O2 on the (100) surface of uranium using generalized gradient approximation to density functional theory. Dissociative adsorptions of O2 are significantly favored compared to molecular adsorptions. We found interstitial adsorption of molecular oxygen to be less probable, as no bound states were found in ...

Sunlight Polymerization of Poly(amidoxime) Hydrogel Membrane for Enhanced Uranium Extraction from Seawater

open access: yesAdvancement of science, 2019
The uranium level in seawater is ≈1000 times as high as terrestrial ores and can provide potential near‐infinite fuel for the nuclear energy industry.

Soil uranium, soil gas radon and indoor radon empirical relationships in the UK and other European countries [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Least squares (LS) regression analysis is used to develop empirical relationships between uranium in the ground, radon in soil and radon in dwellings to assist in the development of a geogenic radon potential map for Europe.

Origin and Role of Kaolinization in Roll-Front Uranium Deposits and Its Response to Ore-Forming Fluids in the Yili Basin, China

open access: yesGeofluids, 2018
Kaolinite is a common mineral found in most Chinese sandstone-hosted uranium deposits. It occurs particularly in coal-bearing clastic rocks in northwest China, such as the uranium deposits in the Yili Basin, which is well known for hosting several large ...

Improved ion exchange membrane [PDF]

open access: yes, 1975
Membrane, made from commercially-available hollow fibers, is used in reverse osmosis, or dialysis. Fiber has skin layers which pass only small molecules. Macromolecules cannot penetrate skin.

Directional Blasting Technology of Slit Charge for Geological Disposal of High-Level Radioactive Waste

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, 2018
Based on the slit charge technology, the blasting progress and the blasting theory have been studied in detail. Combined with the high-level radioactive waste geological disposal, in which the excavation damaged zone of the surrounding rock is required ...

Numerical analysis of thermal process in the near field around vertical disposal of high-level radioactive waste

open access: yesJournal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering, 2014
For deep geological disposal of high-level radioactive waste (HLW) in granite, the temperature on the HLW canisters is commonly designed to be lower than 100 °C. This criterion dictates the dimension of the repository.

Characterization of poly- and single-crystal uranium-molybdenum alloy thin films [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2013
Poly- and single-crystal thin films of U-Mo alloys have been grown both on glass and sapphire substrates by UHV magnetron sputtering. X-ray and Electron Backscatter Diffraction data indicate that for single-crystal U1-xMox alloys, the pure cubic uranium gamma-phase exists for x > 0.22 (10 wt.% Mo).

First-principles investigation of uranium monochalcogenides [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We present first-principles investigation of the electronic structure and magnetic properties of uranium monochalcogenides: US, USe, UTe. The calculations were performed by using recently developed LDA+U+SO method in which both Coulomb and spin-orbit interactions have been taken into account in rotationally invariant form.

Geological characteristics of neoproterozoic motianling granitic pluton hosting uranium mineralization in North Guangxi, China: Insights from biotite chemistry

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science
The Motianling pluton represents a characteristic U-bearing granite pluton in South China. Biotite serves as an indicator for the mineralization of metals such as Cu, Sn, and W in granite. Previous studies have extensively investigated the U metallogenic
