Natural Resources and Political Patronage in Africa: An Ethnicity Level Analysis

open access: yesReview of Development Economics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We investigate the effect of resource discoveries on ethnicity‐level political patronage in Africa using a large geospatial dataset of 254 ethnic groups in 15 countries over the period 1960–2004. We find that the first (or single first) resource discovery in a virgin ethnic homeland increases the share of cabinet posts of that ethnicity.

Diagenetic controls on porosity evolution and pore type organisation in microporous carbonate rocks: Evidence for mesogenetic porosity formation

open access: yesSedimentology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Microporous carbonate rocks typically record complex diagenetic histories driven by microbial activity and fluid interactions within multiple diagenetic environments. The relative roles of meteoric and burial diagenetic processes in pore evolution remain debated, particularly within Cretaceous carbonate systems of the Middle East, as does the ...

Enhancement of Extraction of Uranium from Seawater

open access: yes, 2016
Even at a concentration of 3 μg/L, the world’s oceans contain a thousand times more uranium than currently know terrestrial sources. In order to take advantage of this stockpile, methods and materials must be developed to extract it efficiently, a difficult task considering the very low concentration of the element and the competition for extraction by

Sequencing of the rus gene before and after the mutation with DES in the bacterial Acidithiobacillus sp. FJ2

open access: yesیافته‌های نوین در علوم زیستی, 2019
In Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans, the proteins present in the electron transfer pathway cause ferrous iron oxidation which leads to uranium extraction. The relationship between gene sequence and uranium extraction has not been investigated yet. Based on

To the question of the intensification of the processes of uranium extraction from refractory raw materials

open access: yesMetalurgija, 2019
Recently, one of the main directions for increasing the extraction of uranium from difficult-to-hide ores is the use of intensifiers, which allow the most complete transfer of uranium from one valence state to another. In the article, the catalyst “M-1”,
