Effect of Microorganisms on In Situ Uranium Mining [PDF]

open access: yesApplied and Environmental Microbiology, 1983
The extraction of some metal values, e.g., uranium or copper, may be accomplished by using solutions to remove metals from ore bodies without practicing conventional mining. This process is referred to as in situ leaching and has been used industrially to recover uranium.

3D Response Characteristics Analysis of Vertical Electric Dipole Transient Electromagnetic Fields Under Complex Geological Conditions

open access: yesGeosciences
Vertical electric sources serve as an effective method for identifying deep hydrocarbon reservoirs. This involves the ability to generate transverse magnetic fields, concentrate currents at reservoir interfaces, and effectively emphasize resistivity ...

A coupled fluid-mechanical interaction model for controlled gas migration mechanism by dilatancy effect in saturated bentonite

open access: yesGeomechanics and Geophysics for Geo-Energy and Geo-Resources, 2023
A gas breakthrough in saturated bentonite is relevant to the safety of high-level radioactive waste repositories. The study of gas transport mechanisms in saturated bentonite is very important for the safety assessment of repositories.

Thermal‐induced fracture evolution and acoustic signature of Beishan granite: Insights into tensile strength of barrier system for high‐level radioactive waste disposal

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
The tensile strength of granite, a proposed host for nuclear waste, degrades severely above 400°C. We link this to specific microcracking patterns captured by acoustic emission, establishing a scientific basis for assessing repository safety under thermal load.

Cyclic oxygen vacancy reconstruction in MnO2 polymorphs builds electron reservoirs to drive ionic charge redistribution for stepwise UO22 + reduction

open access: yesEcotoxicology and Environmental Safety
Effective uranium (UO22+) recovery from aqueous waste is vital for resource sustainability and environmental safety. Although oxygen vacancies enhance the redox activity of UO22+, their long–term stability and ability to regenerate remain unclear. Herein,

The relationship between cellular protein content and selenium accumulation in freshwater microalgae

open access: yesIntegrated Environmental Assessment and Management, EarlyView.
Abstract Variability in the bioconcentration of selenium (Se) by primary producers at the base of the food web results in uncertainty in predictions of bioaccumulation and ecological risk to higher trophic level organisms. Water chemistry, speciation of Se, and periphyton community composition have all been suggested as factors that contribute to ...
