Optical Basicity of Glasses: Review and Application in Nuclear Glass Formulation

open access: yesInternational Journal of Applied Glass Science, Volume 17, Issue 4, October 2026.
A self‐consistent set of optical basicity (OB) values was compiled and evaluated for 95 binary oxides using electronegativity, ionic–covalent, and optical‐property approaches, providing a robust basis for estimating the basicity of complex compounds and glasses.

Predicting Nepheline Formation in Nuclear Waste Glasses Using Machine Learning With Uncertainty Quantification

open access: yesInternational Journal of Applied Glass Science, Volume 17, Issue 4, October 2026.
ABSTRACT The vitrification of high‐level waste (HLW) into borosilicate glass is a cornerstone of nuclear waste management, yet one of the key challenges in glass formulation for high‐aluminum‐containing waste streams is the precipitation of nepheline during the canister cooling stage.

Diagenetic controls on porosity evolution and pore type organisation in microporous carbonate rocks: Evidence for mesogenetic porosity formation

open access: yesSedimentology, Volume 73, Issue 6, Page 2353-2380, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Microporous carbonate rocks typically record complex diagenetic histories driven by microbial activity and fluid interactions within multiple diagenetic environments. The relative roles of meteoric and burial diagenetic processes in pore evolution remain debated, particularly within Cretaceous carbonate systems of the Middle East, as does the ...

Outcrop and subsurface characterisation of a mixed tidal and wave‐influenced coastline (Triassic Red Beds, SE Spain)

open access: yesSedimentology, Volume 73, Issue 6, Page 2381-2416, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Paralic depositional systems are complex and heterogeneous sedimentary environments, presenting challenges for predicting reservoir architecture and connectivity. Their stratigraphic and facies variability arises from the dynamic interplay between fluvial, tidal and wave processes, and their sensitivity to sea‐level fluctuations, sediment ...

A Triassic chronostratigraphic and palaeogeographic framework for the Utsira High area, northern North Sea: Reconstructing a basin‐scale drainage divide

open access: yesSedimentology, Volume 73, Issue 6, Page 2417-2453, October 2026.
ABSTRACT The Triassic succession of the northern North Sea comprises a series of interbedded sandstones, mudstones and conglomerates deposited under a fluctuating arid to semi‐humid climate regime, which are often difficult to correlate regionally due to differing lithostratigraphic schemes and poor age control. Despite existing regional studies on the
