The aesthetics of a great city is a combination of many sensory stimuli as well as the visual one. Most of these and even some of the visual effects are outside the control of the designer. Great cities have had fine ap proaches, fine magnets of general interest. They have historically been mainly for the slow pedestrian and for daytime effect.
