The effect of urbanization and spatial agglomeration on carbon emissions in urban agglomeration
Environmental Science and Pollution Research, 2020This research attempted to investigate the impact of urbanization and spatial agglomeration on carbon emissions. To achieve the goal, the dynamic panel data model was employed to explore the nonlinear relationship between urbanization and carbon emissions for 166 cities in China taking the period 2005-2015, and the Gini coefficient of urban population ...

Search, Sorting, and Urban Agglomeration
Journal of Labor Economics, 2001Studies have suggested that urban agglomeration enhances productivity by facilitating the firmâworker matching process. This article develops a model that formalizes this notion and demonstrates that, when firm capital and worker skill are complementary in production, urban agglomeration will tend to generate more efficient, yet segregated matches.

On the Urban Agglomeration and Economic Efficiency
Economic Development and Cultural Change, 1973It is often argued that today's large metropolitan areas have exceeded the "optimal" size and, therefore, development efforts should be directed toward smaller urban centers.1 This argument is frequently based on the proposition that the economic return from investment, either private, public, or both, in large metropolitan areas is less than that in ...

Spatial Competition and Agglomeration in Urban Modelling [PDF]
Many forms of urban models are retail oriented, that is, they depend to some degree on the allocation of shopping expenditures to particular destinations. Such an allocation is usually undertaken with the aid of a production-constrained gravity model, although this type of model ignores the relationship between retail expenditure patterns and spatial ...

Urban Agglomerations in the USSR
Soviet Geography, 1964AbstractThe author discusses urban agglomerations in terms of the commuting ties that exist between the central city and its satellites. He also proposes a study of wide-ranging associations of urban places that are linked by episodic, but consistent travel for business and cultural purposes.

Long-Run Urban Growth with Agglomeration Economies [PDF]
It is widely recognized that agglomeration economies are a crucially important factor in explaining the existence and growth of urban areas, and therefore should be explicitly taken into consideration in long-run urban growth analysis. Once such economies are introduced, however, the urban economy tends to diverge from a steady state equilibrium and ...
