Transformation of social‐ecological systems in the Songhua River Basin, Northeast China: Lessons for a more sustainable development

open access: yesPeople and Nature, EarlyView.
Abstract Social‐ecological systems (SES) are coupled systems formed by the intricate interactions between humans and nature. Our movement towards sustainable lifestyles requires a robust understanding of these interactions. Achieving a sustainable win‐win situation for both social and ecological systems, therefore, necessitates a sound scientific ...

Ultrasonic characterization of the mechanical properties of polyester resin/ignimbrite stone powder composite mortars

open access: yesPolymer Composites, EarlyView.
Schematic diagram of the production and ultrasonic characterization of polyester resin/ignimbrite stone powder composite mortars. Abstract The elastic properties of Polyester Resin (PR)/Ignimbrite Stone Powder (ISP) composite mortars were determined by measuring ultrasonic wave velocities in the mortars. In the production of composite mortars, ISP with

Impact of Different Types of Dust on Solar Glass Transmittance and PV Module Performance

open access: yesProgress in Photovoltaics: Research and Applications, EarlyView.
This study characterizes the soiling losses between four natural dusts. It identifies significant differences in soiling losses, showing that a particular dust from Thailand has a 12.8% higher transmittance loss slope. In addition, measured slopes of Isc losses are consistently lower than calculated values, with an average discrepancy of 16.6%.

Micro-Foundations of Urban Agglomeration Economies [PDF]

open access: yes
This handbook chapter studies the theoretical micro-foundations of urban agglomeration economies. We distinguish three types of micro-foundations, based on sharing, matching, and learning mechanisms.

Urban Scaling in Denmark, Germany, and the Netherlands. Relation with Governance Structures [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
We investigate the socioeconomic urban scaling behavior in Denmark, Germany, and the Netherlands. In the case of Denmark we examine the scaling of larger cities, municipalities within the Copenhagen agglomeration, and municipalities in rural areas. We also distinguish between municipalities with high and low centrality. Superlinear scaling of the gross

Agglomeration economies and entrepreneurship: testing for spatial externalities in the Dutch ICT industry [PDF]

open access: yes
Although there is growing evidence on the role of agglomeration economies in the formation and growth of firms, both the concepts of agglomeration economies and entrepreneurship tend to be ambiguously defined and measured in the literature. In this study,
