Urban Population Density: A Comment [PDF]
The poor results obtained with certain members of the quadratic gamma family is shown to be due to a specification error in most of the members of that family. By choosing a more admissible travel-cost function, the displaced quadratic gamma function is derived, which does not contain this specification error.

Urban traffic noise and the relation to urban density, form, and traffic elasticity
Traffic noise in cities has serious effects on the inhabitants. Well-known effects are annoyance and sleep disturbance, but long-term health effects such as cardiovascular disease have also been related to traffic noise.

This paper reviews research on the association between urban density and indicators of health and social pathology. Much of the research concerns the effects of a real and indwelling densities on rates of mortality, morbidity, crime, and admissions to mental hospitals.

AbstractThe predominance of sprawling, low‐density urban environments throughout the world begs the question: What constitutes a city? Such environments also require us to rethink public space, traditionally at the core of city centres. Rafi Segal and Els Verbakel outline the challenges and opportunities that cities of dispersal raise. Copyright © 2008

The Modelling of Urban Population Density: A Survey
Environment and Planning A: Economy and Space, 1980This paper presents a state-of-the-art review of the principal models of urban population density, including the seven members of the quadratic gamma family and Amson's equilibrium models. A historical introduction is followed by a review of basic assumptions, and then each model is analysed individually, with separate discussions of principal ...

The average population density of Australia's major urban centres has been steadily declining, despite increases in their population size. Increased per capita income and motor vehicle ownership are identified as likely causes. The role of income growth has been under-emphasised in the debate on urban consolidation, and provides a powerful argument ...

Metrics for Vehicle Density in Urban Environment
GLOBECOM 2017 - 2017 IEEE Global Communications Conference, 2017Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANETs) have received a great interest either form academia and from industry since a decade because of their potential for Cooperative-Intelligent Transportation Systems (C-ITS). Then many many issues have been investigated in order to improve performances of such networks as packet delay, throughput,..

Urban Density & Sustainability

High urban population density of birds reflects their timing of urbanization
Oecologia, 2012Living organisms generally occur at the highest population density in the most suitable habitat. Therefore, invasion of and adaptation to novel habitats imply a gradual increase in population density, from that at or below what was found in the ancestral habitat to a density that may reach higher levels in the novel habitat following adaptation to that
