Modelling the driving forces of Sydney's urban development (1971-96) in a cellular environment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
[Abstract]: This paper demonstrates a flexible implementation of rules to control the simulation of urban development of Sydney from 1971 to 1996 using a cellular automata model.

Microbial Contribution to Soiling and Its Impact on Photovoltaic Module Soiling in Arid Zones of the Atacama Desert

open access: yesAdvanced Sustainable Systems, EarlyView.
Microorganisms colonizing photovoltaic surfaces in the Atacama desert form biofilms that enhance particle adhesion and reduce energy yield. This study identifies UV‐resistant bacteria and carotenoid‐producing strains that interfere with PV performance.

Ovarian Matrisome Dynamics and αvβ3‐Mediated Regulation in Early Follicular Development

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The matrisome undergoes dynamic remodeling during early follicular development. Integrin αvβ3 mediates matrisome signals, regulating primordial follicle activation/atresia and secondary follicle growth via Hippo/mTOR pathways, with conserved roles in human ovaries, offering therapeutic targets for ovarian disorders.

Highly Resolved Community Sewage Metagenomics Unveiling Landscape and Transmission Patterns of Antibiotic Resistome in Hong Kong Populations

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A large‐scale, high‐resolution antimicrobial resistance (AMR) surveillance in Hong Kong community sewage combining short‐ and long‐read sequencing. The resistome profile is comprehensively characterized, and this upstream sampling strategy demonstrated superiority in reflecting the human gut resistome.

Divergent Responses of Bacterial Communities to Permafrost Degradation and Their Associations With Carbon Across Vertical Profiles

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Bacterial α‐diversity decreases, but stochasticity and community stability increase across the 15 m‐depth vertical profiles and along the degraded gradient within the active layer. The abundance and interaction of core taxa mainly control community stability in the active and permafrost layers, respectively.

Accessing Resources in Arrival Neighbourhoods: How Foci-Aided Encounters Offer Resources to Newcomers

open access: yesUrban Planning, 2020
Numerous studies have stressed the importance of social networks for the transfer of resources. This article focuses on recently arrived immigrants with few locally embedded network contacts, analysing how they draw on arrival-specific resources in their

Tri–Band and Dual–Response Smart Windows With Asymmetric Mid–Infrared Emissivity for Year–Round Energy Conservation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Our promising smart window exhibits exceptional optical properties, enabling the indoor temperature reduction of 12°C during summer and delivering the annual energy savings of 14.2%–24.4% across mid–to–low latitudes. ABSTRACT Building energy consumption accounts for 20%–40% of global energy usage, with windows among the least energy–efficient ...
