Green Apartheid: Urban green infrastructure remains unequally distributed across income and race geographies in South Africa

open access: yesLandscape and Urban Planning, 2020
Urban green infrastructure provides ecosystem services that are essential to human wellbeing. A dearth of national-scale assessments in the Global South has precluded the ability to explore how political regimes, such as the forced racial segregation in ...

Tracing and building up environmental justice considerations in the urban ecosystem service literature: A systematic review

open access: yes, 2021
The concept of ecosystem services (ES) has mainstreamed as an interdisciplinary framework in the urban sustainability and resilience agenda. While the uptake of ES in urban areas is deeply entangled with multiple values, trade-offs, institutions ...

Bismuth‐Based Photocatalysts for Water Remediation: Design Strategies, Mechanisms, and Challenges

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This review highlights representative design strategies for bismuth‐based semiconductor photocatalysts in solar‐driven water purification. Emphasis is placed on electronic structure regulation, oxygen‐vacancy engineering, and interfacial coupling to enable efficient full‐spectrum light utilization, improved charge separation, and selective oxidation in

Staying in touch with nature and well-being in different income groups: The experience of urban parks in Bogotá

open access: yes, 2016
Studies on the positive effects of contact with nature have been mainly conducted in European countries, North America, and Australia, whereas the experience of nature for people living in other countries is still to be adequately investigated ...

Urban green space cooling effect in cities

open access: yesHeliyon, 2019
Urban green spaces are considered an appropriate way to reduce urban heat island effects and provide comfort to the nearby occupants. In addition to cooling the actual space, urban green spaces are also able to influence the surrounding area, and this ...

Development of Multifunctional Hierarchically Restructured Antibacterial Neural Interfacing Electrodes via Plasma‐Enhanced Atomic Layer Deposition of Zinc Oxide Thin Films

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Next‐generation implantable neural‐interfacing devices are increasingly constrained by the coupled demands of electrode miniaturization, electrochemical performance, and implantation infection risk. Femtosecond laser–based hierarchical surface restructuring (HSR) technology has emerged as a scalable, manufacturing‐compatible platform for ...

The pollution conveyed by urban runoff: A review of sources.

open access: yesScience of the Total Environment, 2019
Urban stormwater and snowmelt pollution contributes significantly to the deterioration of surface waters quality in many locations. Consequently, the sources of such pollution have been studied for the past 50 years, with the vehicular transportation ...

Topology‐Orchestrated Multi‐physical Energy Control in Turtle Shell‐Inspired Metamaterials

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A turtle shell‐inspired lattice metamaterial efficiently manages acoustic, fluid‐thermal, and mechanical energy flows simultaneously. The unique hybrid‐coupling architecture achieves superior sound attenuation via pore‐cavity resonance, facilitates effective airflow transport, and maximizes mechanical energy absorption through multistage cell ...

Improving the Robustness of Visual Teach‐and‐Repeat Navigation Using Drift Error Correction and Event‐Based Vision for Low‐Light Environments

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Visual teach‐and‐repeat (VTR) navigation allows robots to learn and follow routes without building a full metric map. We show that navigation accuracy for VTR can be improved by integrating a topological map with error‐drift correction based on stereo vision.
