Assessment of the Effects of Urban Heat Island on Buildings
2020Climate change and global warming have been indisputable as supported by mounting evidence of more extended, severe, and frequent occurrences of extreme weather events (EHEs), in particular, summertime heatwaves in recent years. EHEs often interact with buildings in urban area centers, which are densely packed by building blocks with vulnerable ...

Positive effects of vegetation: Urban heat island and green roofs
Environmental Pollution, 2011This paper attempts to evaluate the positive effects of vegetation with a multi-scale approach: an urban and a building scale. Monitoring the urban heat island in four areas of New York City, we have found an average of 2 °C difference of temperatures between the most and the least vegetated areas, ascribable to the substitution of vegetation with man ...

The Urban Heat Island Effect in Singapore
2007Buildings can influence climate. The impact is limited for an isolated building but magnifying tremendously for a city. According to Bridgman et al. (1995, p. 15), buildings influence the urban climate in five major ways: by replacing vegetated area, presenting blocky and angular buildings, releasing artificial heat, disposing rainfall rapidly, and ...

Mitigation of urban heat island effect and greenroofs
Indoor and Built Environment, 2013The anthropogenic developments have been causing a warming phenomenon of city centres called urban heat islands (UHI). The effect is made worse by the urban canopy characteristics of concrete, façade glazing and asphalt surfaces of building and road structures.

The Urban Heat Island Effect at Fairbanks, Alaska
Theoretical and Applied Climatology, 1999Summary Using climatic data from Fairbanks and rurally situated Eielson Air Force Base in Interior Alaska, the growth of the Fairbanks heat island was studied for the time period 1949‐ 1997. The climate records were examined to distinguish between a general warming trend and the changes due to an increasing heat island effect.

Construction of a cold island network for the urban heat island effect mitigation
Science of The Total EnvironmentThe urban heat island (UHI) effect seriously challenges sustainable urban development strategies and livability. Numerous studies have explored the UHI problem from the perspective of isolated blue and green patches, ignoring the overall function of cold island networks.

Carbon Sequestration and the Urban heat Island Effect
2021An urban heat island is an urban or metropolitan area that is on average far warmer than the surrounding rural areas. In this lesson we will study the impact these warmer temperatures have on the carbon sequestration of urban trees.

Urban heat island effect in Istanbul city
2021SUMMARY In this work differences in the air temperature fields in and around Istanbul city during the hours near sunset and cloudless skies are analyzed. The influence of synoptic wind speed on the heat island phenomena was examined. The relative and absolute humidities in the Istanbul urban and non-urban areas was studied during this work.

Analysis of the Guangzhou urban heat island effect
2012 IEEE Symposium on Robotics and Applications (ISRA), 2012The brightness temperature data and NDVI data of Guangzhou urban city, what were used to study Guangzhou's heat island effect, acquired from TM image. The conclusion as follows: the high brightness temperature area include Liwan district, Yuexiu District, Haizhu district and so on old city, nearby Guangzhou Train station rail line, Baiyun airport area,
