The footprint of urban heat island effect in China [PDF]
AbstractUrban heat island (UHI) is one major anthropogenic modification to the Earth system that transcends its physical boundary. Using MODIS data from 2003 to 2012, we showed that the UHI effect decayed exponentially toward rural areas for majority of the 32 Chinese cities.

Data and techniques for studying the urban heat island effect in Johannesburg [PDF]
The city of Johannesburg contains over 10 million trees and is often referred to as an urban forest. The intra-urban spatial variability of the levels of vegetation across Johannesburg’s residential regions has an influence on the urban heat island ...

SPATIO-TEMPORAL ANALYSIS OF THE EFFECTS OF URBAN GROWTH ON URBAN HEAT ISLAND: CASE OF KONYA, TURKIYE [PDF]
The increase in impermeable surfaces within the urban areas contributes to local and regional-scale climate changes. This phenomenon, called "Urban Heat Island," is observed as the temperature in urban areas is higher than rural areas and natural ...

Evaluation of the Effect of Urban Redevelopment on Surface Urban Heat Islands [PDF]
Climate change is a global challenge with multiple consequences. One of its impacts is the increase in heatwave frequency and intensity. The risk is higher for populations living in urban areas, where the highest temperatures are generally identified, due to the urban heat island effect.
