Green swans and blue skies: Climate change and insolvency risk for financial institutions

open access: yesInternational Insolvency Review, EarlyView.
Abstract This lecture in honour of the late Gabriel Moss QC and Ian Fletcher QC examines the challenge of climate‐related financial risk. Prudential regulators and central banks recognize that the systemic nature of climate‐related financial risk makes it an emerging vulnerability relevant to cross‐border insolvency resolution.

Remote Sensing-Based Research on Urban Heat Island Effect [PDF]

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences
This paper focuses on the urban heat island effect under rapid urbanisation. It examines the application of remote sensing technology to monitor this effect. First, it defines the urban heat island effect. It points out its negative impacts.

Climatology and Trends of Sub‐Daily Precipitation Extremes in Croatia

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, EarlyView.
Sub‐daily extreme precipitation indices reveal pronounced spatial variability, with the highest intensities and frequencies across the Adriatic region and the highlands. Seasonal and diurnal patterns highlight distinct regional behaviour, including summer maxima over the continental interior and nocturnal or early‐morning peaks along the Adriatic coast.

Assessment of Urban Vacant Lands Greening Potential Based on an Urban Heat Island Network: A Case Study of the Core Urban Area of Hangzhou

open access: yesFengjing Yuanlin
ObjectiveAmid global climate change and rapid urbanization, the heat island effect has emerged as a major challenge in urban environments. In densely built-up areas, high population concentration and reduction of green spaces contribute to the gradual ...

Characterising City Scale Heat Climatology for Australian Climate Zones

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, EarlyView.
The Urban Heat Island (UHI) effect in Australian cities peaks at night, intensifying under dry conditions, clear skies, increased solar radiation, and low wind speeds. Long‐term observations show that nighttime temperatures in major cities have warmed faster than their rural surroundings and future climate projections fail to capture this disparity ...

Multi‐Timescale Drought Evolution in Greece (1960–2022) From Station‐Based SPI and SPEI

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, EarlyView.
Using homogenized data from 67 HNMS stations in Greece (1960–2022), we calculated SPI and SPEI at 1–12‐month scales to characterize meteorological to hydrological drought. We quantified the network‐based spatial extent of drought, compared SPI and SPEI drought signals, and tested changes with autocorrelation‐robust Mann–Kendall trends and Pettitt ...

Long-Term Spatiotemporal Heterogeneity and Influencing Factors of Remotely Sensed Regional Heat Island Effect in the Central Yunnan Urban Agglomeration

open access: yesLand
The urban heat island effect (UHI) has become a major challenge for sustainable urban development. In recent decades, the significant development of urban agglomerations has intensified the complex interaction and comprehensive impact of the UHI effect ...

Contrasting Heatwave Regimes in Dry and Humid Subtropical Mexico: A Station‐Based Probabilistic Assessment

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, EarlyView.
Heatwaves have intensified under a warming climate, producing substantial environmental and societal impacts. This study characterizes heatwave regimes in two contrasting regions of Mexico using a percentile‐based threshold and a Poisson distribution framework.

Linking distribution and return‐on‐investment models to optimize woody management for prairie grouse in Nebraska

open access: yesThe Journal of Wildlife Management, EarlyView.
We modeled prairie grouse abundance across Nebraska and projected future woody encroachment to estimate population losses. By combining predicted gains from woody treatments with avoided losses and treatment costs, we mapped return on investment to identify areas for woody treatments that maximize benefits to greater prairie‐chickens and sharp‐tailed ...

Mitigation strategies for regional heat island effects: integrated network construction of cold and heat islands

open access: yesEcological Indicators
The Urban Heat Island (UHI) effect is a major environmental challenge in global urbanization. As urbanization progresses, the UHI effect in individual cities has expanded regionally, forming Regional Heat Islands (RHI). However, strategies for mitigating
