Noise and Health in the Urban Environment
Reviews on Environmental Health, 2000Noise, including noise from transport, industry, and neighbors, is a prominent feature of the urban environment. This paper reviews the effects of environmental noise on the non-auditory aspects of health in urban settings. Exposure to transport noise disturbs sleep in the laboratory, but generally not in field studies, where adaptation occurs.

Inequalities in noise will affect urban wildlife
Nature Ecology & Evolution, 2023Understanding how systemic biases influence local ecological communities is essential for developing just and equitable environmental practices that prioritize both human and wildlife well-being. With over 270 million residents inhabiting urban areas in the United States, the socioecological consequences of racially targeted zoning, such as redlining ...

The most important part of it is undoubtedly the recommendations made to member governments. These have been well thought out and ought to be adopted almost without exception. They are prefaced with a description of the aims which public policy ought to have, and in the context of traffic noise control, these aims refer to "seeking a realistic balance ...

This workshop is focused on the use of augmented reality to animate and activate graffitis of the city of Palermo. The main goal is to teach and share knowledge in digital art and augmented reality, using an easy learning process to make digital interfaces accessible to different public, ages and goals.

Applied Acoustics, 1987
Abstract Despite the large number of urban noise surveys which have been conducted to date, there are considerable weaknesses in the large body of data that such surveys have collected. For example, there are little data available which allow comparison of the acoustic environment of one city, or the noise exposure of its residents, with those of ...

Most current knowledge about community response to noise exposure is derived from studies of high-level transportation sources. A nationwide urban noise survey was undertaken to study effects associated with more moderate but far more common sorts of noise exposure.

3D noise mapping in urban areas
International Journal of Geographical Information Science, 2008Noise mapping is the process of determining and visualizing noise impact on the environment in order to support environmental policies. Currently most noise impact studies are based on a 2D approach. The 3D output of noise simulation software is processed and visualized in 2D and combined with 2D topographical and other data, such as population ...
