Evaluation of transportation noise in urbanised areas. A case study

open access: yesArchives of Acoustics, 2014
The paper describes a study of noise emission levels by roads inside an urban setting. For this purpose simultaneous measurements were performed: a) noise levels Leq, L10 and L90, b) vehicle flow and c) traffic composition.

Food Tastes in the United States: Convergence or Divergence?

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study investigates how food consumption tastes have changed in recent decades across the United States. Using NielsenIQ data for over 77 million transactions, there is evidence of divergence in food tastes across regions from 2007 to 2016 and across households of different income, education, and race/ethnicity groups.

Traffic noise and energy

open access: yesEnergy Reports, 2020
Urban noise depends on several factors from which Traffic Noise is the most important. City centers and main access roads are usually over exposed that is, average day–evening–night noise level [LDEN] and/or rest expose level [LNIGHT] surpasses a ...

Experimental characterization of vertical-axis wind turbine noise. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Vertical-axis wind turbines are wind-energy generators suitable for use in urban environments. Their associated noise thus needs to be characterized and understood. As a first step, this work investigates the relative importance of harmonic and broadband

Flying green from a carbon neutral airport : the case of Brussels [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The aviation sector is one of the fastest growing emitters of greenhouse gases worldwide. In addition, airports have important local environmental impacts, mainly in the form of noise pollution and deterioration in air quality. Although noise nuisance in

Market‐Based Nutrition Regulation and Adult BMI Dynamics in Latin America

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Market‐based nutrition policies, including interpretative labeling systems and taxes on sugar‐sweetened beverages (SSBs), have been widely adopted across Latin America to influence dietary choices and address rising obesity rates. While prior research documents change in food purchasing and product reformulation following these policies ...

Analysis of the Grid Sampling Method for Noise Mapping

open access: yesArchives of Acoustics, 2013
The grid method is the most widely used technique for measurement-based noise assessment, and indeed is part of the ISO 1996-2 standard. Nevertheless it has certain disadvantages. The present work is an analysis of the grid method for evaluating noise,

An estimate of the enroute noise of an advanced turboprop airplane NASA-TM-87302 E-3020 NAS 1.15:87302 HC A02/MF A01 [PDF]

open access: yes
The enroute noise of an Advanced Turboprop powered aircraft was estimated. The measured noise levels were roughly equivalent in annoyance to the noise 15.24 m from an automobile traveling at 80 km/h.

Acoustic propagation over periodic and quasi-periodic rough surfaces [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Transport noise is an ever present concern in urban areas affecting the quality of life for millions of people. The traditional noise barrier is not always a convenient method of noise control and can divide communities.

High‐Speed Altitude Regulation With Neuromorphic Camera and Lightweight Embedded Computation

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
Neuromorphic cameras deliver rapid, high‐dynamic‐range sensing but overwhelm embedded processors at high speeds. This work presents a lightweight, optimized Lucas–Kanade optical flow method with parallelization, gyroscopic derotation, and adaptive event slicing.
