Pile foundations of offshore structures are often subjected to cyclic loads under storm loads, thus reducing their vertical bearing capacity. Therefore, studying the cyclic shear behavior of the soil–structure interface is important for maintaining the ...

Barrio morphology and private space: the social drivers of informal urban settlements in Caracas [PDF]
Urban morphology has historically been studied through the physical characteristics of a particular space. However, the urban form of a place is also influenced by relationships and social contexts.

Unsettled Urban Space: Routines, Temporalities and Contestations [PDF]
While urban life can be characterized by endeavors to settle stable and safe environments, for many people, urban space is rarely stable or safe; it is uncertain, troubled, imbued with challenges and perpetually under pressure.

Elephant‐skin‐inspired crack networks are programmed in porous diatomaceous earth (DE)‐cement composites using substrate‐guided, stress‐concentration induced fracture. The resulting crack lattices act as capillary conduits that redistribute water, while the porous matrix stores moisture.

From urban space to urban history—an introduction
While interest in urban space in the Roman world has boomed in recent decades, the debate has developed a strong emphasis on conceptual innovation, and this has limited the sensitivity of current discourse to historical change, so that debates about Roman urban space and Roman urban history have been developing without much interaction.

Mechanically origami‐coded 3D kirigami photovoltaics convert a single extension–release cycle into deterministic self‐folding, reconfiguring planar solar cells into programmable 3D modules. Distinct coding strategies enable either ultrahigh stretchability (500% system strain) or ultrahigh initial effective areal coverage (225%).

Cyclic constitutive equations of rock with coupled damage induced by compaction and cracking
In this paper, the cyclic constitutive equations were proposed to describe the constitutive behavior of cyclic loading and unloading. Firstly, a coupled damage variable was derived, which contains two parts, i.e., the compaction-induced damage and the ...

Visual teach‐and‐repeat (VTR) navigation allows robots to learn and follow routes without building a full metric map. We show that navigation accuracy for VTR can be improved by integrating a topological map with error‐drift correction based on stereo vision.
