Elephant‐Skin‐Inspired Porous Cementitious Tiles with Programmable Crack Networks for Passive Cooling

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Elephant‐skin‐inspired crack networks are programmed in porous diatomaceous earth (DE)‐cement composites using substrate‐guided, stress‐concentration induced fracture. The resulting crack lattices act as capillary conduits that redistribute water, while the porous matrix stores moisture.

A 1.5 m resolution land cover map of Southern China created with Superpixel U-Net

open access: yesScientific Data
Accurate land cover mapping is essential for supporting ecological protection and resource management. However, in regions with complex and fragmented landscapes, such as Southern China (SC), existing medium- and high-resolution land cover products ...

The nested structure of urban business clusters [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Although the cluster theory literature is bountiful in economics and regional science, there is still a lack of understanding of how the geographical scales of analysis (neighbourhood, city, region) relate to one another and impact the observed ...

Orbital Electrowetting: From Continuous Droplet Transport to Programmable Microfluidics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This work comprehensively summarizes the mechanisms, recent advances, potential applications, and key challenges of orbital electrowetting. It highlights that integrating orbital electrowetting with conventional electrowetting is required to enable complete digital‐microfluidic workflows while simplifying platform architecture.

Anti‐Slip Material‐Based Strategies and Approaches

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This review highlights the principle mechanisms of slipping at the microscale, linking contact mechanics with a friction behavior model for surface interfaces. Main strategies to develop anti‐slip properties to the surfaces are discussed alongside standardized testing approaches.

Prediction of Response of Existing Building Piles to Adjacent Deep Excavation in Soft Clay

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, 2019
This study investigates building settlements near excavations in soft clay. A simplified theoretical method is proposed to predict the additional settlements and axial forces of excavation-adjacent existing building floating piles in soft clay.

Evaluation method for fault safety and its application based on ANSYS: a case study of Baiju aquifer gas storage in Dongtai Depression, Subei Basin

open access: yesShiyou shiyan dizhi, 2022
Aquifer gas storage uses porous media reservoir to store natural gas. The location of aquifer gas storage has a wide geographical range and does not depend on large salt mines or depleted oil and gas reservoirs, which is of great significance to China's ...

Agrarian Structures, Urbanization, and Inequality [PDF]

open access: yesWorld Development, 2016
This study examines the impact of agrarian structures on income inequality over the long run. First, it exhibits the relationship between land and income distribution by developing a theoretical model based on Harris and Todaro (1970) and Lewis (1954).

Radiative Cooling by Green(er) Solvents‐Upcycled Polyvinyl Chloride From Drug Blisters Waste

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
This study explores upcycling poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) from used pharmaceutical blisters into sustainable radiative cooling materials. Using solvent separation and membrane fabrication, PVC was converted into white membranes paired with aluminum foil.

Urban Structure and Suburban Selectivity [PDF]

open access: yesDemography, 1964
