The void : Urban wasteland as political space

open access: yes, 2016
The rugged field and group of trees between housing estates or next to the railroad tracks, the left-over space of deserted industrial areas, the vacant demolition site of a central city block – they could all be termed ‘urban voids’. However, they are often anything but voids, in a literal sense, as they are not empty, or deserted. Yet they are ‘urban

THE PATTERN OF URBAN VOIDS IN DOHA NEIGHBORHOODS AND THEIR IMPLICATIONS

open access: yes, 2023
The extensive expansion in terms of economy, policies, and society in Qatar demands an increase of equal extent/scale on the building and infrastructure to accommodate the growth that is happening and that is expected to happen. The expansion seeks to compete with the global economic superpowers and the regional demands for socio-economic and socio ...

Circular Economy in Crisis Contexts: An Assessment Framework for Post‐Disaster Building Stock Toward Strategic Autonomy

open access: yesBusiness Strategy and the Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Post‐disaster contexts generate large volumes of damaged building stock with significant, yet often unquantified, circularity potential. Through the lens of strategic management, the circular economy emerges as a transformative pathway to strengthen systemic resilience by reducing dependencies on external resources and mitigating supply chain ...

Industrial Symbiosis as a Neglected Opportunity in Industrial Decarbonisation Pathways: Qualitative Insights From the Australian Manufacturing Sector

open access: yesBusiness Strategy and the Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Industrial symbiosis (IS) represents a key strategy for industrial decarbonisation (ID) by converting one industry's waste into valuable inputs for another, reducing emissions and resource extraction. Scientific studies have explored the concept, implementation approaches and theoretical foundations of IS.

Interface‐Engineered Li–Ni–O/Ni Heterostructures With Tunable Vacancies on Biochar Enable Biomass‐to‐Hydrogen Conversion

open access: yesCarbon Energy, EarlyView.
This study shows that lithium induces Li–Ni–O/Ni heterostructures on biochar, creating oxygen vacancies and optimal acid–base environments that enhance steam activation and suppress carbon deposition. These interfacial effects and synergistic modulation lead to high hydrogen yields at moderate temperatures, providing a scalable catalyst design strategy
