Metabolic distinctiveness of ureaplasmas

The Pediatric Infectious Disease Journal, 1986
Enzymes of the Embden-Meyerhof-Parnas pathway and hexose monophosphate shunt were examined in cytoplasmic extracts of three serovars of Ureaplasma urealyticum. We found no glucose-6-phosphate or 6-phosphogluconate dehydrogenase, hexokinase, phosphoglucose isomerase, aldolase, or lactic dehydrogenase activities.

Mycoplasma and Ureaplasma

2012
Several species of mycoplasmas and ureaplasmas are now well-known human pathogens responsible for a broad array of conditions involving the respiratory and urogenital tracts of adults and infants and they may cause severe systemic disease in susceptible hosts. Greater attention is now being given to these organisms in diagnostic microbiology largely as

Ureaplasma colonization

The Pediatric Infectious Disease Journal, 1986
Genital mucosal colonization with Ureaplasma species complicates interpretation of their role as pathogens. From an epidemiologic point of view, colonization should be considered a dynamic process in which knowledge about the habitat colonized is an integral part.
