Role of Gastric Urease

Nature, 1948
IN a previous communication1, we were able to confirm that urease is present in the gastric mucosa and, to some extent, in the duodenal mucosa. It was pointed out that the amount of the ferment present in the whole stomach of an animal is sufficient to release enough ammonia from urea to neutralize large amounts of hydrochloric acid.

Incorporation of urease into liposomes

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - General Subjects, 1977
Abstract 1. 1. Urease was entrapped in egg lecithin liposomes. About 1 mg of protein was incorporated per 10 mg of lipid, which corresponds to a molar lipid: protein ration of about 4600. 2. 2. The entrapment procedure led to a change of the apparent Michaelis constant from about 68 mM (free enzyme) to about 167 mM (entrapped enzyme). The V

Immobilization of cholinesterase and urease

Analytical Biochemistry, 1970
Abstract Procedures are described for the immobilization (insolubilization) of the enzymes cholinesterase and urease in starch and polyacrylamide. Various parameters affecting the immobilization are discussed, and the stability of the insolubilized enzymes in storage and in use is reported.

Urease poisoning in the dog

American Journal of Physiology-Legacy Content, 1961
Ammonium intoxication in dogs was induced by intravenous administration of urease. This method affords a unique preparation for the study of ammonia metabolism in vivo, since, within limits, a self-perpetuating, cyclic release of ammonia is achieved.

An improved urease electrode

Analytical Biochemistry, 1970
Abstract An important sensing electrode has been developed for assay of the enzyme urease. It is based on the peak or steady-state potential obtained with the aid of a roller pump to control the concentration of urea against the surface of an ammonium ion electrode.

Inhibition of urease by hydroxyurea

Biochemical Pharmacology, 1965
Abstract Hydroxyurea was shown to be a potent inhibitor of urease; 50% inhibition occurred at a concentration of approximately 5 × 10−5 M. Preincubation of the enzyme with the inhibitor prior to addition of substrate yielded inhibition which progressed with time, whereas simultaneous addition of inhibitor and substrate to the enzyme reduced the ...

Quantification of Urease Activity

2019
Urease is one of the most distinctive virulence factors of Proteus mirabilis pathogenesis. Urease activity correlates with many landmark side effects of P. mirabilis catheter-associated urinary tract infections, such as urolithiasis and bacteremia.
