Retrocaval Ureter: Report of Two Cases and Literature Review

open access: yesKaohsiung Journal of Medical Sciences, 2003
Retrocaval ureter is a rare congenital anomaly in which the ureter passes behind, and is compressed by, the inferior vena cava. Its etiology is assumed to be abnormal embryologic development of the inferior vena cava as a result of atrophy failure of the

Blind-ending bifid ureter – a case report of rare congenital anomaly and its sonographic appearance

open access: yesJournal of Ultrasonography, 2022
We report a case of a blind-ending bifid ureter in a 67-year-old woman with ascites initially diagnosed with B-mode and Color Doppler ultrasonography and afterwards verified with contrast-enhanced abdominal computed tomography. A literature review of the

Derivation and characterization of retinal pigment epithelium from urine‐derived iPSCs

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Age‐related macular degeneration causes vision loss via RPE dysfunction and loss. Traditional iPSC therapies rely on invasive biopsies, limiting scalability. Here, we utilize urine‐derived stem cells as an accessible source to generate u‐iPSCs, successfully differentiated into pigmented RPE. This “Urine‐to‐Retina” platform provides a promising path for

Retrocaval ureter with vesicoureteric reflux, a very rare entity

open access: yesAfrican Journal of Urology, 2017
Introduction: A circumcaval ureter is a rare congenital anomaly in which the ureter passes behind inferior vena cava. VUR is rarely found in association with retrocaval ureter. Diagnosis and management are difficult.

Biomimetic Vascular Scaffold with Seamless Electrospun Aligned Nanofiber Conduit and 3D‐Printed Coil Reinforcement

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
We introduce a new fabrication method that overcomes the current limitation of tubular gap electrospinning. We successfully fabricated a seamless hollow tube with fibers aligned along the longitudinal axis in diameters as small as 300 µm, and then reinforced it using 4‐axis 3D printing.

Renal IGFBP6 Interacts With THBS1 to Drive Renal Cellular Senescence and Fibrosis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Epithelial dedifferentiation and myofibroblast activation are critical drivers of chronic kidney disease (CKD) progression. Elevated levels of IGFBP6 have been linked to decreased renal function in CKD patients, but its precise role and underlying mechanisms remain unclear.

Computed tomographic appearance of circumcaval and circumuterine ureter in a cat

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, 2020
Background Circumcaval ureter is a rare congenital anomaly resulting from the persistence of embryonic venous system. This anomaly is characterized by running of affected ureter around caudal vena cava (CVC). Case presentation In this report, circumcaval

Pathological Copper Overload Reprograms SOD1 Activation via COMMD1 to Promote Senescence and Fibrosis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study uncovers a previously unrecognized copper‐COMMD1‐SOD1 regulatory axis, revealing that pathological copper overload paradoxically suppresses SOD1 activity by promoting COMMD1‐dependent disruption of SOD1 homodimerization. These findings redefine the regulatory role of copper in SOD1 biology and provide novel mechanistic insight into the ...

Renal Tubular Epithelial CRLF1 Interacts With ITGB1 to Accelerate Fibrosis During the Transition From AKI to CKD

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
During renal fibrosis, SMAD3 acts as a transcription factor for CRLF1, promoting its expression and secretion. CRLF1 then binds to ITGB1 via an autocrine mechanism, activating the PI3K‐AKT signaling pathway to mediate renal fibrosis. This accelerates the progression from AKI to CKD, highlighting the therapeutic potential of targeting CRLF1 for ...
