Body mass index and buttock circumference are independent predictors of disintegration failure in extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy for ureteral calculi

open access: yesJournal of the Formosan Medical Association, 2013
Effective stone disintegration by extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy (ESWL) may depend on patient- and stone-related factors. We investigated predictors of disintegration failure in ESWL for a solitary ureteral calculus.

Efficacy of emergency extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy in the treatment of ureteral stones: a meta-analysis

open access: yesBMC Urology, 2023
Objective To compare the clinical efficiency and safety of emergency extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (eESWL) and delayed extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (dESWL) in the treatment of ureteral stones.

Triplicate Ureter with Complicated Ureteral Cyst in an Ectopic Malrotated Kidney: A Rare Association

open access: yesJournal of Health Science and Medical Research (JHSMR), 2023
One of the rarest anomalies of the renal collecting system is ureteral triplication along with the presence of a complex ureteral cyst. We describe an unusual case of a 37-year-old man who presented with fever and abdominal pain.

Cystatin C in Evaluating Renal Function in Ureteral Calculi Hydronephrosis in Adults

open access: yesKidney & Blood Pressure Research, 2019
Background: Serum cystatin C (CysC) is still becoming used as a marker of renal function but is far from being commonly used worldwide. The purpose of this study was to characterize the ureteral calculi patients with hydronephrosis-caused CysC changes in

ACLY‐Driven Metabolic Reprogramming Promotes Histone Acetylation and Inflammation‐Associated Fibrosis in Chronic Kidney Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study reveals a citrate–ACLY–H3K27ac metabolic–epigenetic axis driving inflammatory gene activation and kidney fibrosis, highlighting ACLY inhibition as a potential therapeutic strategy for chronic kidney disease (CKD). ABSTRACT The mechanisms by which metabolic stress drives epigenetic dysregulation and fibrosis in chronic kidney disease (CKD ...

Study of ureteral and renal morphometry on the outcome of ureterorenoscopic lithotripsy: The critical role of maximum ureteral wall thickness at the site of ureteral stone impaction

open access: yesUrology Annals, 2020
Purpose: The purpose is to study the association of stone, ureteral, and renal morphometric parameters with the relevant outcome variables, i.e., complication rate, stone-free rate (SFR), and operating time of ureterorenoscopic lithotripsy.

Pharmacokinetics, safety, tolerability and fluorescence imaging of nizaracianine triflutate administered in three divided doses to healthy volunteers

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Aim Fluorescence‐guided surgery enhances intraoperative visualization of anatomical structures. Nizaracianine is a near‐infrared fluorescent agent that is exclusively renally cleared in animal models. It enables real‐time ureteral imaging and identification, potentially reduces risk of injury and facilitates assessment before surgical closure.

Renal ultrasound after first febrile urinary tract infection in hospitalized children: The ROUTINE prospective observational study protocol

open access: yesJournal of Hospital Medicine, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Urinary tract infection (UTI) is a common reason for hospitalization in young children. American and Canadian guidelines recommend universal renal ultrasound after a first febrile UTI to identify genitourinary abnormalities that require further management, despite limited supporting evidence. The Renal ultrasOund after first febrile

Renal screening sonography—A comparative study in a Portuguese basic emergency service

open access: yesJournal of Medical Radiation Sciences, Volume 72, Issue 1, Page 8-16, March 2025.
Renal sonography screening aids in clinical decision‐making for patients with suspected renal colic. This study intends to compare the accuracy and pertinence of sonographic findings obtained by a sonographer in a Basic Emergency Service (BES) with that of radiologists at Referral Hospital (RH) in Portugal. Renal sonography screening was able to detect
