In recent years, the incidence of nephrolithiasis in the pediatric population appears to be increasing. 1 This has placed a new emphasis on surgical management of stones in children. In the past, extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy was the preferred management technique for stones in children.

Ureteroscopy: Results and Complications
Journal of Urology, 1987The results and complications of 100 consecutive ureteroscopy studies are reported. Introduction through the orifice or the intramural ureter failed in 11 per cent of the patients and in 14 per cent the ureteroscope could not be advanced up to the level of the lesion.

SUMMARY Ureteroscopy with the rigid instrument is now an integral part of the endourologic armamentarium for the management of patients with ureteral calculi. Our experience demonstrates that ureteroscopy can be a safe, efficacious, and less invasive modality. Morbidity will be lowered with proper patient selection, meticulous attention to technique,

AbstractThirty-nine patients underwent 44 ureteroscopic procedures between January 1985 and August 1988 for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. Twenty six procedures were undertaken on 23 patients for extraction of ureteric calculi and were successful on the initial attempt in 14 (61%).

Complications Associated with Ureteroscopy
British Journal of Urology, 1986Summary— A review of 125 ureteroscopies in 111 patients is reported. Eight per cent suffered major complications of perforation or stricture formation and 3% required ureteric reimplantation. Clinical follow‐up and imaging studies performed more than a year after ureteroscopy produced no evidence that late complications arise.

Complications Following Ureteroscopy
Journal of Urology, 1986We report 4 cases of ureteral injury and stricture formation following ureteroscopic stone manipulation. Possible etiologies of stricture formation and our methods of managing them are discussed. The complications of ureteroscopy have been reported only rarely and the ureteroscopist should be aware that the procedure is not always benign.

Initial experience with the rigid ureteroscope showed that despite ureteral dilation and guide wire followers, introduction of the ureteroscope can be difficult due to bladder mucosa catching on the instrument. A simple, cheap disposable device using a modified ureteric catheter is presented that overcomes this problem.
