Urethral Disease and Interventional Cystourethrography

Radiologic Clinics of North America, 1986
The innovation of balloon dilatation of urethral stricture and prostatic hypertrophy is a major contribution to interventional radiology. The procedure involves minimal trauma, produces immediate relief of symptoms, and probably results in less frequent and less difficult redilatations. The sparsity of reports in the literature on this subject reflects

Urethritis in Men

Infectious Disease Clinics of North America, 1987
Gonococcal and nongonococcal urethritis (NGU) are among the most common syndromes afflicting men. NGU is caused primarily by Chlamydia trachomatis and Ureaplasma urealyticum, but the cause is unknown in approximately 20 to 30 percent of cases. Evaluation of a gram-stained urethral smear is generally sufficient to distinguish between gonococcal and ...

Treatment of urethral diseases with neodymium:Yag laser

Urology, 1988
Over a thirty-month period, a wide variety of common urethral problems were treated on an ambulatory basis, with the neodymium:yttrium-aluminum garnet (Nd:YAG) laser. When used discriminately, laser treatment appears to be an effective modality for the management of selected urethral strictures.

Stricture disease: radiology of urethral stents.

Radiology, 1991
Self-expanding metal stents are emerging as an effective alternative treatment in the management of urethral obstruction. The radiologic studies of 33 men with anterior urethral strictures (subprostatic, n = 11; bulbar, n = 22) that had recurred despite repeated optical urethrotomy and dilation were reported.

Nonneoplastic and Neoplastic Urethral Disease

2012
The urethra, which carries urine from the urinary bladder to the external urethral orifice for excretion and provides the conduit for semen in males, may be involved by a broad spectrum of both neoplastic and nonneoplastic diseases, which may produce very similar clinical symptoms.

Ultrasonographic evaluation of urethral stricture disease

Urology, 1992
Twenty-four male patients with known or suspected urethral stricture disease were evaluated using ultrasonic urethrography and standard retrograde x-ray urethrography for comparative analysis of the two techniques. Each patient also had cystoscopy for direct visual verification of the extent of the stricture.

Disturbances of bladder and urethral function in Parkinson's disease

International Urology and Nephrology, 1985
Bladder and urethral function was studied in a total of 68 patients, using cystometry and sphincter electromyography. A high incidence of disturbances of both detrusor and sphincter innervation was encountered. Upper urinary tract damage was rare. The pathophysiology of the dysfunctions of the lower urinary tract is discussed.
