Non‐primary adenocarcinoma in a pet goat (Capra hircus)

open access: yesVeterinary Record Case Reports, EarlyView.
Abstract A 12‐year‐old hysterectomised pet goat was referred for posterior lameness and general weakness evolving into paralysis. Spine radiography showed a sublumbar mass and a vertebral fracture. The computed tomography scan and postmortem examination further confirmed the presence of sublumbar adenocarcinoma infiltrating vertebrae and inducing a ...

Constipation and urinary retention caused by a vaginal epithelial inclusion cyst in a 1 year old intact cat

open access: yesVeterinary Record Case Reports, EarlyView.
Abstract This case report describes a rare instance of a keratinising vaginal epithelial inclusion cyst causing significant clinical signs in a 1‐year‐old domestic shorthair queen. The cat presented with severe constipation, urinary retention and a caudal abdominal/cranial intrapelvic mass identified on diagnostic imaging.

Explainable machine learning for neoplasms diagnosis via electrocardiograms: an externally validated study [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Background: Neoplasms remains a leading cause of mortality worldwide, with timely diagnosis being crucial for improving patient outcomes. Current diagnostic methods are often invasive, costly, and inaccessible to many populations. Electrocardiogram (ECG) data, widely available and non-invasive, has the potential to serve as a tool for neoplasms ...

Perspective: Speculative role of Tmp21 mediated protein secretory pathway during endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress induced chronic inflammation [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2016
By deploying myelofibrosis as the disease context, I wish to propose that increased availability of Tmp21 (an NFAT gene target) induces aberrant protein secretion from the ER contributing to pathological consequences, which has not been elucidated before.

Adverse Reactions to Urinary Contrast: A Case Report and Systematic Review

open access: yesJournal of Medical Imaging and Radiation Oncology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Intra‐urinary iodinated contrast agents are commonly used in urological procedures, but research of allergic reactions is rare. This study presents a rare case of an intra‐urinary contrast reaction, followed by a comprehensive literature review of adverse reactions to intra‐urinary contrast.

Forecasting Leading Death Causes in Australia using Extended CreditRisk$+$ [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2015
Recently we developed a new framework in Hirz et al (2015) to model stochastic mortality using extended CreditRisk$^+$ methodology which is very different from traditional time series methods used for mortality modelling previously. In this framework, deaths are driven by common latent stochastic risk factors which may be interpreted as death causes ...

Techniques to resect the distal ureter in robotic/laparoscopic nephroureterectomy

open access: yesAsian Journal of Urology, 2016
Treatment of clinically-organ confined high grade urothelial carcinoma of the upper tract has historically comprised open nephroureterectomy, with the distal ureter and bladder cuff mobilized through a separate open pelvic incision. To decrease morbidity,

Deep Multi-Modal Classification of Intraductal Papillary Mucinous Neoplasms (IPMN) with Canonical Correlation Analysis [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
Pancreatic cancer has the poorest prognosis among all cancer types. Intraductal Papillary Mucinous Neoplasms (IPMNs) are radiographically identifiable precursors to pancreatic cancer; hence, early detection and precise risk assessment of IPMN are vital.

Incidence of complications from perioperative urinary catheterisation in horses

open access: yesAustralian Veterinary Journal, EarlyView.
Catheterisation of the urinary bladder is a common procedure during perioperative care of horses. Benefits of urinary catheters include a reduction in the risk of recovery‐associated slip hazards as a consequence of voided urine and the measurement of urine output during anaesthesia.

Risk of invasive penile cancer after treatment of penile intraepithelial neoplasia

open access: yesBJU International, EarlyView.
Objectives To examine the risk of progression and time to progression from penile intraepithelial neoplasia (PeIN) to invasive penile cancer in patients treated for PeIN with either surgery, laser ablation or topical treatment, and to examine recurrence risk after treatment of PeIN.
