Neurourology and Urodynamics, 2022
The aim of this study is to examine the functional outcomes of ona‐botulinum toxin A (BTX‐A) injection into the external urethral sphincter (EUS) for female patients with nonneurogenic nonrelaxing sphincter as the underlying cause of voiding dysfunction (

Urethral sphincter electromyography
International Urogynecology Journal, 1993Electromyography of the pelvic floor muscles may be used to assess their innervation using the technique of motor unit analysis. Prolongation of motor unit duration and an increase in motor unit amplitude reflects denervation and reinnervation of these muscles.

Fetal Development of the Urethral Sphincter
European Journal of Pediatric Surgery, 1992A morphological study was carried out on 25 human embryos (3-60 mm CR) and 20 human fetuses (15-40 weeks). The anatomical analysis was completed by immunocytochemical studies of different markers of muscle differentiation (vimentin, desmin, titin and isoforms of the myosin heavy chains).

Pseudomyotonia of the Striated Urethral Sphincter
Journal of Urology, 1983Pseudomyotonic discharges of the striated urethral sphincter are infrequent findings. We herein report on 9 patients with dissimilar anatomical-clinical conditions. In some patients a definite neurological lesion was ascertained, whereas in the remaining patients no neurological impairment could be determined clinically and instrumentally.

Detrusor-Urethral Sphincter Dyssynergia
Journal of Urology, 1977Inappropriate contraction or failure of relaxation of either the internal (smooth muscle) or external (striated muscle) urethral sphincter or both coincident with detrusor contraction results in a micturitional disorder known as detrusor-urethral sphincter dyssynergia.

Urethral axis and sphincteric function
American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 1986Position and mobility of the urethral axis are considered factors influencing urethral competence. Specific correlation between the urethral axis and its sphincteric function is lacking. Eighty-four patients with the symptom of stress urinary incontinence and 31 patients with sensory symptomatology but not urinary incontinence underwent clinical and ...

Prior studies demonstrate increased incidence of urinary incontinence (UI) in the geriatric population which affects their quality of life. Pathophysiology of UI in the geriatric population and the underlying molecular mechanisms are still unclear.

Bowel and bladder function are at risk during tumor resection of the conus, cauda equina, and nerve roots. This study demonstrates the ability to acquire transcranial electrical motor evoked potentials (TCeMEPs) from the urethral sphincter muscles ...

The striated urethral sphincter in female rats
Anatomy and Embryology, 2003The aim of this study was to give a microscopic description of the organization, the innervation and the slow or fast type of the striated fibers of the external urethral sphincter in the female rat. Conventional methods for photonic microscopy and immunochemistry were applied to cross and longitudinal sections of snap-frozen urethra.

The effect of solifenacin on urethral sphincter morphology [PDF]
The aim of the study was to determine whether a 6-week course of 5 mg of solifenacin succinate used to treat mixed incontinence, produces measurable changes in the appearance of the urethral sphincter.Twenty-six women undergoing treatment for mixed incontinence were recruited from a urogynaecology unit after failing to improve with conservative ...
