Fetal Development of the Urethral Sphincter
European Journal of Pediatric Surgery, 1992A morphological study was carried out on 25 human embryos (3-60 mm CR) and 20 human fetuses (15-40 weeks). The anatomical analysis was completed by immunocytochemical studies of different markers of muscle differentiation (vimentin, desmin, titin and isoforms of the myosin heavy chains).

Musculus Sphincter Urethrae (Urethral or External Sphincter)
2001The musculus sphincter urethrae (urethral or external sphincter) has been the subject of numerous studies into the anatomical bases of urine continence. However, we are still a long way off from an integrated description of its anatomy tallying with the physiology of urine continence.

Pseudomyotonia of the Striated Urethral Sphincter
Journal of Urology, 1983Pseudomyotonic discharges of the striated urethral sphincter are infrequent findings. We herein report on 9 patients with dissimilar anatomical-clinical conditions. In some patients a definite neurological lesion was ascertained, whereas in the remaining patients no neurological impairment could be determined clinically and instrumentally.

Electrodiagnosis of Striated Urethral Sphincter Dysfunction
Journal of Urology, 1979In many centers urethral striated sphincter electromyography has become an essential component of urodynamic testing. The urologist who uses this modality of investigation in an attempt to understand the pathophysiology of striated sphincter dysfunction must have some basic knowledge of electromyography.

Urethral Sphincteric Responses to Sacral Root Stimulation
European Urology, 1991Deafferentation and stimulation of sacral nerves in patients with complete spinal cord lesions is a good model to study the parasympathetic influence on urethral behavior. During intradural sacral deafferentation from S2 to S4/S5 in preparation for implantation of the Finetech-Brindley anterior sacral root stimulator, sacral roots were stimulated with ...

Urethral Sphincter: Stress Urinary Incontinence
2017Urinary incontinence is described as the involuntary loss of urine and is a common condition in middle-aged and elderly women and men [1].
