The Current Applications in Surgery of Three‐Dimensional Modelling Technology for Complex Fistula‐In‐Ano: A Systematic Review

open access: yesANZ Journal of Surgery, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Complex fistula‐in‐ano (FIA) poses significant clinical challenges due to its intricate anatomy and high recurrence rates. Traditional imaging techniques like MRI are limited by their two‐dimensional (2D) nature, prompting the use of three‐dimensional (3D) modeling for enhanced visualization. Methods This systematic review, adhering

Artificial urinary sphincter implantation: an important component of complex surgery for urinary tract reconstruction in patients with refractory urinary incontinence

open access: yesBMC Urology, 2018
Background We review our outcomes and experience of artificial urinary sphincter implantation for patients with refractory urinary incontinence from different causes. Methods Between April 2002 and May 2017, a total of 32 patients (median age, 40.8 years)

Dorsal Genital Nerve Stimulation as an Adjunctive Therapy to Control Neurogenic Detrusor Overactivity After Spinal Cord Injury

open access: yesArtificial Organs, EarlyView.
People with spinal cord injury (SCI) experience bladder overactivity, which can cause incontinence. Dorsal genital nerve stimulation (DGNS) can suppress overactivity, providing a longer duration to reach a toilet. People with SCI trialed home‐based DGNS for 8 weeks. DGNS was effective in the laboratory, and participants found home‐based DGNS acceptable.

Electroejaculation functions primarily by direct activation of pelvic musculature: Perspectives from a porcine model

open access: yesTranslational Research in Anatomy, 2018
Ejaculatory dysfunction is a significant cause of infertility in men that have incurred spinal cord injury or iatrogenic lesions to the sympathetic nerves in the retroperitoneum.

Time-Dependent Changes of Urethral Function in Diabetes Mellitus: A Review [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Neurourology Journal, 2019
This article reviewed the current knowledge on time-course manifestation of diabetic urethral dysfunction (DUD), and explored an early intervention target to prevent the contribution of DUD to the progression of diabetes-induced impairment of the lower ...

Association of bi‐parametric MRI measures with continence after robot‐assisted radical prostatectomy

open access: yesBJU International, Volume 135, Issue 4, Page 603-610, April 2025.
Objective To investigate the association between pre‐ and postoperative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) measurements of the membranous urethra and the prostate volume and continence following robot‐assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP). Patients and Methods From December 2018 to June 2022, 100 continent patients undergoing unilateral nerve‐sparing or ...

Multifractal characteristics of external anal sphincter based on sEMG signals [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
This work presents the application of Multifractal Detrended Fluctuation Analysis for the surface electromyography signals obtained from the patients suffering from rectal cancer. The electrical activity of an external anal sphincter at different levels of medical treatment is considered.

Inter-pulse intervals of external anal sphincter surface EMG signals recorded from colorectal cancer patients [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
Intervals between electrical pulses generated by the electrical activity produced by the motor units of an external anal sphincter were studied at four time intervals during multimodal rectal cancer treatment. Probability distribution function of such intervals does not exhibit significant differences for all considered time intervals. It is found that

Urinary continence outcomes after robot‐assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy: Significance of anterior reconstruction

open access: yesInternational Journal of Urology, Volume 32, Issue 4, Page 355-360, April 2025.
Objective Urinary continence after radical prostatectomy is a crucial aspect of patient quality of life. The aim of this study was to identify the factors influencing urinary continence after robot‐assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy, focusing on the role of anterior reconstruction.

Recurrent urethrovesical anastomotic strictures following artificial urinary sphincter implantation: a case report

open access: yesJournal of Medical Case Reports, 2012
Introduction The management of an anastomotic stricture after a radical prostatectomy can become a complex and difficult situation when an artificial urinary sphincter precedes the formation of the stricture.
