A Robotic Urinary Bladder Enabling Volume Monitoring and Assisted Micturition

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
An implantable robotic bladder is presented that can store urine in an origami‐designed enclosure. An inductance sensing principle can monitor and transfer the urine volume in real‐time. It can actively expand based on the amount of urine collected from kidneys and apply on‐demand mechanical compression to assist urination.

Local DRLs and automated risk estimation in paediatric interventional cardiology [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Introduction : Cardiac catheterization procedures result in high radiation doses and often multiple procedures are necessary for congenital heart disease patients. However, diagnostic reference levels (DRL) remain scarce.

Cuneiform Nucleus Stimulation Can Assist Gait Training to Promote Locomotor Recovery in Individuals With Incomplete Tetraplegia

open access: yesAnnals of Neurology, EarlyView.
Objective Impaired ability to induce stepping after incomplete spinal cord injury (SCI) can limit the efficacy of locomotor training, often leaving patients wheelchair‐bound. The cuneiform nucleus (CNF), a key mesencephalic locomotor control center, modulates the activity of spinal locomotor centers via the reticulospinal tract.

Implantable Drug Delivery Systems for Skeletal Muscles and Eyes

open access: yesAdvanced NanoBiomed Research, EarlyView.
This review highlights the different types of recent implantable drug delivery systems (IDDS) fabricated for a use with skeletal muscles, and with eyes. It presents the developments already made and the current research directions, showing the evolution of IDDS and their great diversity.

A Randomized, Double‐Blind, Placebo‐Controlled Trial of Abatacept for the Treatment of Relapsing, Nonsevere Granulomatosis With Polyangiitis

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, EarlyView.
Objective To compare the efficacy of abatacept to placebo for the treatment of relapsing, nonsevere granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA). Methods In this multicenter trial, eligible patients with relapsing, nonsevere GPA were randomized to receive abatacept 125 mg subcutaneously once a week or placebo, both together with prednisone 30 mg/day (or ...

Effect of Planned Nursing Interventions on the Prevention of Acute Urinary Retention (AUR) in Male Patients after Cardiac Catheterization

open access: yesمراقبت پرستاری و مامایی ابن سینا, 2017
Introduction: With the increasing use of cardiac catheterization and its complications, such as urinary retention, finding a safe and non-invasive way to solve this problem is essential. The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of planned nursing

Delay in detection of urethral catheter misplacement in the vagina of an older adult patient due to urinary outflow during catheterization: a case report

open access: yesJA Clinical Reports
Background To our knowledge, no previous case report explicitly shows that urethral catheter misplacement in the vagina cannot be ruled out even if urinary outflow is observed during catheterization.

Population pharmacokinetic modelling revealed large variability in oromucosal absorption of Δ9‐tetrahydrocannabinol in older patients with poor appetite

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Aim Cannabis‐based medicines are gaining interest and being explored for new therapeutic indications, many of which commonly affect older medical patients. As most previous studies of the population pharmacokinetics of cannabinoids have been performed in healthy adults, this study aimed to investigate the population pharmacokinetics of Δ9 ...

Short-term effects of suprapubic catheterization on detrusor muscle contraction in a rat model of postoperative urinary dysfunction

open access: yesContinence
Catheterization is commonly performed in pelvic surgery to manage postoperative urinary dysfunction. However, little is known about the effects of catheterization on bladder function, although catheterization can drain urine from the bladder.
