Resolution of third‐degree atrioventricular block after antibiotic therapy in a dog (Canis lupus familiaris) with urinary tract infection

open access: yesVeterinary Record Case Reports, EarlyView.
Abstract A 15‐year‐old, spayed, female Boxer dog presented to an emergency facility for collapsing episodes. Third‐degree atrioventricular block that was non‐responsive to atropine was diagnosed on electrocardiography. Initial diagnostics revealed a concurrent urinary tract infection and renal azotaemia.

LAPAROSCOPICALLY ASSISTED ANORECTOPLASTY AND THE USE OF THE BIPOLAR DEVICE TO SEAL THE RECTAL URINARY FISTULA

open access: yesABCD: Arquivos Brasileiros de Cirurgia Digestiva, 2016
Background: The anorectal anomalies consist in a complex group of birth defects. Laparoscopic-assisted anorectoplasty improved visualization of the rectal fistula and the ability to place the pull-through segment within the elevator muscle complex with ...

Upper airway obstruction due to aspiration of the tamponading gauze swab placed following severe blood loss during sinus flap surgery in a Shetland pony (Equus caballus)

open access: yesVeterinary Record Case Reports, EarlyView.
Abstract A 24‐year‐old pony, weighing 130 kg, was presented with chronic sinusitis despite previous tooth extraction and sinus trephination in standing sedation. General anaesthesia was induced for a maxillary sinus flap. Severe haemorrhage occurred, which required tamponade of the sinus using a gauze swab.

Severe Vesico-ureteral Reflux and Urine Sequestration: Mathematical Relations and Urodynamic Consequences [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2009
Some simple mathematical formulae to calculate the volumes of proximal pyeloureteral reflexive systems are presented, and the results are compared to bladder capacity values. Using the results of the calculi, the author discusses possible implications of severe urinary sequestration in the pyeloureteral systems.

Suspected calcitriol‐mediated hypercalcaemia and postmortem diagnosis of histiocytic sarcoma in a dog

open access: yesVeterinary Record Case Reports, EarlyView.
Abstract This report describes a case of refractory ionised hypercalcaemia, of 12 months duration, in an 11‐year‐old, male, neutered beagle diagnosed with metastatic histiocytic sarcoma at postmortem examination. In this case, the parathyroid hormone levels were at the lower end of the reference interval, the parathyroid hormone‐related peptide was ...

Location embedding based pairwise distance learning for fine-grained diagnosis of urinary stones [PDF]

open access: yesMICCAI 2024
The precise diagnosis of urinary stones is crucial for devising effective treatment strategies. The diagnostic process, however, is often complicated by the low contrast between stones and surrounding tissues, as well as the variability in stone locations across different patients.

Modeling and simulation of a low grade urinary bladder carcinoma [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2013
In this work, we present a mathematical model of the initiation and progression of a low-grade urinary bladder carcinoma. We simulate the crucial processes involved in tumor growth, such as oxygen diffusion, carcinogen penetration, and angiogenesis, within the framework of the urothelial cell dynamics.
