Brugada Syndrome: New Implications for Heterozygous Carriers of the Pathogenic SCN5A c.689T>C(p.Ile230Thr) Variant

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Medical Genetics Part A, Volume 200, Issue 5, Page 1083-1086, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Pathogenic variants in the SCN5A gene and its subunits have been identified in individuals with Brugada Syndrome. One such SCN5A variant, c.689T>C(p.Ile230Thr), was previously reported as disease‐causing only in homozygous individuals, with heterozygous carriers being unaffected.

Ontogeny of Placental FcRn Protein During Human and Animal Pregnancy to Inform Developmental Toxicity Testing

open access: yesBirth Defects Research, Volume 118, Issue 5, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Introduction Species differences exist in Fc domain‐containing molecule transfer/biodistribution to the embryo‐fetus during pregnancy. Placentation was reviewed and placental neonatal Fc receptor (FcRn) quantitation in the chorioallantoic placenta (CAP) and/or inverted yolk sac placenta (InvYSP) was investigated across species throughout ...

Acute Music‐Frequency Exposure Modulates Salivary Stress and Neurotrophic Markers in Young Adults: A Randomized Controlled Trial

open access: yesBrain and Behavior, Volume 16, Issue 5, May 2026.
Distinct music frequencies used are as follows: – 528 Hz → BDNF & CREB (learning, memory, and neuroplasticity). – 432 Hz → GRP78 (cellular stress response marker). – Stroop Test → No immediate cognitive difference. Note that a frequency of 528 Hz showed a pattern compatible with enhanced neurotrophic signaling, while a frequency of 432 Hz was linked to

Challenges in Diagnosing and Treating Percutaneous Nephrostomy‐Related Urinary Tract Infection in Cancer Patients: A Retrospective Cohort Study

open access: yesCancer Medicine, Volume 15, Issue 5, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Objective We aimed to evaluate medical decisions regarding urinary tract infection (UTI), describe associated microorganisms, and assess potential risk factors for percutaneous nephrostomy‐related UTI (UTI‐PN). Methods Oncological patients who underwent percutaneous nephrostomy (PN) were included. We assessed percutaneous nephrostomy procedure‐

Fruquintinib Plus TAS‐102 With or Without SBRT as Third‐ Or Later‐Line Therapy for Metastatic Colorectal Cancer: Preliminary Results From a Prospective Phase II Trial

open access: yesCancer Medicine, Volume 15, Issue 5, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Both fruquintinib and TAS‐102 monotherapies are guideline‐recommended for third‐line treatment of metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC). This study aimed to analyze the preliminary outcomes of fruquintinib combined with TAS‐102, with or without stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT), as a third‐ or later‐line therapy for mCRC.
