Postoperative urinary retention: risk factors, bladder filling rate and time to catheterization: an observational study as part of a randomized controlled trial

open access: yesPerioperative Medicine, 2021
Background Knowledge of risk factors for postoperative urinary retention may guide appropriate and timely urinary catheterization. We aimed to determine independent risk factors for postoperative urinary catheterization in general surgical patients.

Relationship of Hippuric Acid Excretion to Urinary Volume.

open access: yesExperimental Biology and Medicine, 1948
SummaryThe rate of excretion of hippuric acid is independent of urine volume, indicating that the present standards for the interpretation of the hippuric acid test are valid. It is suggested that hippuric acid excretion is a function of the renal tubules.

Radiation Dose–Volume Effects of the Urinary Bladder

open access: yesInternational Journal of Radiation Oncology*Biology*Physics, 2010
An in-depth overview of the normal-tissue radiation tolerance of the urinary bladder is presented. The most informative studies consider whole-organ irradiation. The data on partial-organ/nonuniform irradiation are suspect because the bladder motion is not accounted for, and many studies lack long enough follow-up data. Future studies are needed.
