Eliminating Unnecessary Urine Cultures To Reduce Costs [PDF]
In a retrospective study of urine cultures performed during a 1-year period, we found that 14.64% of the tests requested and performed were inappropriate according to literature-based exclusion criteria. Specimens obtained twice on the same day, twice on two consecutive days, or more than six times per month were considered unnecessary.
