Tight Junctions are Sensitive to Peptides Eliminated in the Urine

Journal of Membrane Biology, 2002
We prepare an extract of dog urine (DLU) that, when applied to monolayers of MDCK cells (epithelial, derived from a normal dog), enhances the transepithelial electrical resistance (TER) in a dose-dependent manner. This increase is not reflected in variations of the linear amount of TJ nor in changes of the pattern of junctional strands as observed in ...

Effectiveness of products in eliminating cat urine odors from carpet

Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association, 1989
Summary Eleven products were compared for their ability to eliminate cat urine odor in carpet. Their performance on new urine spots and on old spots was compared as was their ability to prevent the return of urine odors after the carpet was cleaned. Newer products marketed to eliminate urine odor did the best in getting rid of and in preventing the ...

Elimination of Screening Urine Cultures Prior to Elective Joint Arthroplasty

Clinical Infectious Diseases, 2016
Abstract Discontinuing routine processing of screening urine cultures prior to elective joint arthroplasty resulted in substantial reduction in urine cultures ordered and antimicrobial prescriptions for asymptomatic bacteriuria, without any significant impact on incidence of prosthetic joint infection.

[Physiological influences on the enzyme elimination with urine].

Zeitschrift fur medizinische Laboratoriumsdiagnostik, 1990
It is desirable to know the factors determining the large interindividual and interindividual variation of urinary enzyme excretion rates among normal individuals to allow a better understanding of pathological states. The following factors seems to play a significant role in influencing total enzyme efflux rates: urinary flow, age, sex, biorhythms ...

Uric acid elimination in the urine. Pathophysiological implications.

Contributions to nephrology, 2005
Uric acid, a weak organic acid, has very low pH-dependent solubility in aqueous solutions. About 70% of urate elimination occurs in urine, the kidney standing as a major determinant of plasma levels. The complex renal handling results in a fractional clearance of less than 10%.
