Lessons to Learn From Low-Dose Cyclosporin-A: A New Approach for Unexpected Clinical Applications

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2019
Cyclosporin-A has been known and used for a long time, since its “fast track” approval in the early 80's. This molecule has rapidly demonstrated unexpected immunosuppressive properties, transforming the history of organ transplantation. Cyclosporin's key

Exploring wave propagation behaviors in rock: A grain‐based perspective on mineral structures

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
This study investigates wave propagation in rock at the grain scale using a grain‐based model, revealing that mineral elastic modulus significantly influences wave attenuation while grain size and distribution have limited effects. A novel peak particle velocity attenuation prediction model is proposed and validated for grain‐scale wave propagation ...

A rock brittleness index based on the postpeak energy release rate and damage surface characteristics for brittle hard rock

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
This study examines energy evolution in rock rupture via triaxial direct shear tests, exploring the impact of confining pressure and temperature on fracture surface randomness. A novel energy‐based brittleness index is proposed, validated experimentally, and compared with existing methods for reliability and accuracy.

Regional Differences in Unemployment and the Labor Supply Decision [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
We present a model that describes the labor supply decision of individuals under transaction costs and job-related amenities. The model indicates that individuals will respond to regional differences in wages net of transaction costs and accept higher ...

Fhod3 in zebrafish supports myofibril stability during growth of embryonic skeletal muscle

open access: yesDevelopmental Dynamics, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Actin filament organization in cardiomyocytes critically depends on the formin Fhod3, but a role for Fhod3 in skeletal muscle development has not yet been described. Results We demonstrate here that in zebrafish mutated for one of two fhod3 paralog genes, fhod3a, skeletal muscle of the trunk appears normal through 2 days post ...

Navigating the Digital World: Pre‐Service Teachers' Processes and Perspectives on Evaluating Online Information

open access: yesFuture in Educational Research, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This descriptive case study examined how undergraduate pre‐service teachers (PSTs) enrolled in a digital literacies course evaluated online information as part of a module digital project. PSTs were tasked with assessing peer‐selected online texts using multiple strategies in an unrestricted web environment.
