Association between seed production traits in Urochloa spp.
Crop Science, 2023AbstractUrochloa spp. are excellent perennial forages and are among the best grasses for livestock production. The seed yield is an important trait because it impacts the seed production cost and, consequently, the cost of establishing pastures.

The objective of this was to evaluate the effects of organic fertilization on biomass production in Urochloa spp. pastures, and the soil biological and physical properties in the Colombian Amazon region. Three pastures crops (Urochloa decumbens, Urochloa humidicola and Urochloa brizantha) with 5 years old were examined in a hill landscape. A randomized

Agroforestry Systems, 2021
The goal of this study was to evaluate the morphogenetic, physiology, and forage mass characteristics of Mavuno brachiariagrass (Urochloa brizantha × Urochloa ruziziensis) under shading. The experiment was analyzed as split-plot. Whole plots were two growing seasons (spring/summer and fall/winter) and the subplots were shade levels (0, 30, 45, and 73%).

Combining ability and selection for agronomic and nutritional traits in Urochloa spp. hybrids
Grass and Forage Science, 2021AbstractThe Urochloa spp. breeding program at EMBRAPA‐Brazil targets the development of apomictic hybrids to improve animal performance, while reducing the environmental impact of livestock. In summary, breeders perform multiple crosses between apomictic and sexual parents, and screen progeny to perform selections for agronomic and nutritional traits ...

Brushwood and artificial perch did not facilitate forest regeneration in Urochloa spp. grassland
Brazilian Journal of Botany, 2020In Brazil, many pastures are formed by grasses of the genus Urochloa, which have recognized inhibitory effects on regeneration of native vegetation. Using facilitation practices for natural regeneration of these areas aims to promote forest restoration by creating safe sites in the seedbed.

Large variability in drought survival among Urochloa spp. cultivars
Grass and Forage Science, 2018AbstractThe Urochloa spp. cultivars are largely used for forage production in tropical and humid subtropical zones in Brazil. However, in areas of transition to drier zones, the persistence of Urochloa cultivars may be jeopardized by severe drought.

Water deficit tolerance in genotypes of Urochloa spp.: Water deficit in Urochloa spp.
2021It is estimated that the world’s population will increase considerably in the coming years. Thus, there is a need to maximize the production of animal protein, of which the pasture production system is the most economical way. However, abiotic factors influence animal production, with water deficit being the factor that most limits the development of ...

In vitro regeneration from leaf-base segments in three genotypes of Urochloa spp.
Crop & Pasture Science, 2018The key agricultural species of Urochloa P.Beauv. (signal grass), important as tropical forage grasses, are characterised by asexual seed formation (apomixis), and this presents a challenge for breeding programs. Biotechnological approaches could be an option to develop improved cultivars.
