CiC3-1a-Mediated Chemotaxis in the Deuterostome InvertebrateCiona intestinalis(Urochordata) [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Immunology, 2003
AbstractDeuterostome invertebrates possess complement genes, and in limited instances complement-mediated functions have been reported in these organisms. However, the organization of the complement pathway(s), as well as the functions exerted by the cloned gene products, are largely unknown.

JASPAR 2018 : update of the open-access database of transcription factor binding profiles and its web framework [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
JASPAR (http://jaspar.genereg.net) is an open-access database of curated, non-redundant transcription factor (TF)-binding profiles stored as position frequency matrices (PFMs) and TF flexible models (TFFMs) for TFs across multiple species in six ...

Predatory impact of the myctophid fish community on zooplankton in the Scotia Sea (Southern Ocean) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Myctophids are the most abundant mesopelagic fishes in the Southern Ocean, although their trophic role within the predominantly krill-based food web in regions south of the Antarctic Polar Front (APF) is poorly resolved. This study therefore examined the

Taxonomic Study of Family Doliolidae (Urochordata: Thaliacea: Doliolida) from Korea [PDF]

open access: yesAnimal Systematics, Evolution and Diversity, 2010
Four species in two genera of the family Doliolidae are identified and re-described in Korean waters: Doliolum denticulatum Quoy and Gaimard, 1834, Doliolum nationalis Borgert, 1894, Dolioletta gegenbauri (Uljanin, 1884), and Dolioletta tritonis (Herdman, 1888). Dolioletta gegenbauri is newly recorded in Korean fauna.

Computational prediction and experimental validation of Ciona intestinalis microRNA genes

open access: yesBMC Genomics, 2007
Background This study reports the first collection of validated microRNA genes in the sea squirt, Ciona intestinalis. MicroRNAs are processed from hairpin precursors to ~22 nucleotide RNAs that base pair to target mRNAs and inhibit expression.

Membrane-associated collagens with interrupted triple-helices (MACITs):evolution from a bilaterian common ancestor and functional conservation in C. elegans [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Protein sequence alignment of human collagens XIII, XXIII, XXV and six alternative spliced variants of COL-99. The protein sequence of the newly identified COL-99f was compared with the other COL-99 variants and human collagens XIII, XXIII and XXV ...

TAXONOMIC CORRELATES OF BIOLUMINESCENCE AMONG APPENDICULARIANS (UROCHORDATA: LARVACEA)

open access: yesThe Biological Bulletin, 1985
Larvaceans, common members of marine plankton communities, filter-feed with renewable, external, mucous houses. The houses of some species of Oikopleuridae produce endogenous bioluminescent flashes upon mechanical stimulation and may contribute significantly to surface luminescence.

Suppression of cell-spreading and phagocytic activity on nano-pillared surface: in vitro experiment using hemocytes of the colonial ascidian Botryllus schlosseri. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Nano-scale nipple array on the body surface has been described from various invertebrates including endoparasitic and mesoparasitic copepods, but the functions of the nipple array is not well understood.
