The shape of the urine stream — from biophysics to diagnostics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We develop a new computational model of capillary-waves in free-jet flows, and apply this to the problem of urological diagnosis in this first ever study of the biophysics behind the characteristic shape of the urine stream as it exits the urethral ...

Detrusor Overactivity and Urodynamics

open access: yesNeurourology and Urodynamics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT While overactive bladder (OAB) is a clinical diagnosis, detrusor overactivity is identified through urodynamic testing. UDS is usually considered when primary treatment for OAB fails, because UDS is expensive, time consuming, invasive, and sometimes inaccurate, and it is not considered to influence treatment strategy substantially.

Improvements in Bladder Function Following Activity-Based Recovery Training With Epidural Stimulation After Chronic Spinal Cord Injury

open access: yesFrontiers in Systems Neuroscience, 2021
Spinal cord injury (SCI) results in profound neurologic impairment with widespread deficits in sensorimotor and autonomic systems. Voluntary and autonomic control of bladder function is disrupted resulting in possible detrusor overactivity, low ...

The Influence of Preoperative Urodynamics on Management in Women With Pelvic Organ Prolapse

open access: yesNeurourology and Urodynamics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Importance The role of preoperative urodynamic studies (UDS) in women undergoing pelvic organ prolapse (POP) surgery remains controversial, especially regarding their influence on surgical planning and patient counseling. Objective To evaluate the impact of preoperative UDS on changes in surgical management and counseling among women with ...

Modification of bladder thermodynamics in stress urinary incontinence patients submitted to trans-obturator tape: A retrospective study based on urodynamic assessment

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology, 2022
Importance: It needs to be clarified whether trans-obturator tape (TOT)-enhanced urethral resistance could impact the voiding function. Objective: Although TOT has been well-recognized for enhancing urethral resistance to restore continence in stress ...

Prospective study to compare antibiosis versus the association of N-acetylcysteine, D-mannose and morinda citrifolia fruit extract in preventing urinary tract infections in patients submitted to urodynamic investigation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
BACKGROUND: The abuse of antimicrobical drugs has increased the resistance of microorganisms to treatments, thus to make urinary tract infections (UTIs) more difficult to eradicate.

Adhering to Clinical Advice: The Level of Alignment of Care Processes With Global Bladder Guidelines in Veterans With Spinal Cord Injuries or Diseases

open access: yesNeurourology and Urodynamics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Guidelines contain recommendations for monitoring and care of neurogenic lower urinary tract dysfunction (NLUTD) in patients with spinal cord injury/disorder. Evidence on the level of adherence to these recommendations is limited.
