CT urography and MR urography are an evolving concept and developing technique. As the technology matures, CT urography will combine the ultimate diagnostic capabilities of intravenous urography and CT. In the near future, many intravenous urograms will be replaced by CT urography to evaluate patients with hematuria and other genitourinary conditions ...

Developments of MR imaging of static fluid has led to the emergence of MR urography (MRU) as a potential imaging technique of the urinary system. MRU has been shown to be highly sensitive in the diagnosis of urinary obstruction, defining the severity of dilatation, the site, and in the majority of cases, the cause of obstruction.

Thirty patients injected intravenously with a nonionic contrast medium, iohexol, for urography were compared with 30 patients similarly injected with sodium iothalamate. Comparable radiographic results were obtained in these patients with normal renal function.

With the recent introduction of multi-detector row helical computed tomography (CT), the radiologic evaluation of patients with urologic disease has changed rapidly. Two major approaches to CT urography have been developed. The first approach combines axial CT with timed excretory urography (EU) performed by using conventional radiography, digital ...

Dr. Cremin's letter brings out the difference in approach between a general hospital which undertakes relatively few examinations on small children and a paediatric hospital. In my article I said that sedation was imperative in infants and most small children.

Excretory urography is a type of contrast study used to verify and localize upper urinary tract disease. In some instances, information regarding renal function and disease pathophysiology can also be obtained. With the recent advances in small animal ultrasonagraphy, excretory urography has become an underutilized procedure.
