Dietary Influence on Urolithiasis Risk Mediated by Plasma Metabolites: A Mendelian Randomization and Experimental Study Linking Genes, Metabolites, and Clinical Outcomes

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 13, Issue 8, August 2025.
This Mendelian randomization (MR) study identified causal links between 8 food intake factors, 15 food liking factors, and kidney stone risk, with 50 plasma metabolites mediating these associations. Experimental validation in rat models and renal cells revealed decreased Mannose/Threonate levels and downregulated LAMA2/CSNK1G3 genes in stone formation.
