The phylogenetic position of Maritrema afanassjewi Belopol’skaya, 1952 (Digenea, Plagiorchiida: Microphallidae), a parasite of the Ussuri brown bear, Ursus arctos lasiotus Gray, 1867 (Carnivora, Ursidae)

Canadian Journal of Zoology, 2023
Adult digeneans of Maritrema afanassjewi Belopol’skaya, 1952 parasitize birds and mammals at the North Pacific coasts and was previously studied in a view of morphology.

THE FIRST DATA ON THE NUTRITION OF THE URAL CAVE BEAR (MAMMALIA, CARNIVORA, URSIDAE, URSUS (SPELAEARCTOS) KANIVETZ VERESTCHAGIN, 1973) BASED ON THE RESULTS OF THE ANALYSIS OF ISOTOPES 13C and 15N

Доклады Российской академии наук. Науки о жизни, 2023
The first data on the content of isotopes 13C and 15N in the collagen of 16 bones of the Ural cave bear (Ursus (Spelaearctos) kanivetz Verestchagin, 1973) were obtained from the Tayn (Secrets) cave (55°25' N, 57°46' E).

Polyploidy in germ cell of brown bear Ursus arctos (Ursidae, Mammalia): A case report.

Reproductive Biology
In this work, we present the first detailed study of the normal meiotic karyotype of the brown bear based on the analysis of synaptonemal complexes. Microphotographs of the key stages of meiotic prophase I were obtained.

CONTENT OF 13С AND 15N ISOTOPS IN BONE COLLAGEN OF GEOGRAPHICAL, AGE AND SEX GROUPS OF THE URAL CAVE BEAR (MAMMALIA, CARNIVORA, URSIDAE, URSUS (SPELAEARCTOS) KANIVETZ VERESTCHAGIN, 1973)

Доклады Российской академии наук. Науки о жизни, 2023
Data on the content of δ13C and δ15N isotopes in the collagen of bones of the Ural cave bear (Ursus (S.) kanivetz Verestchagin, 1973) from the Northern and Middle Urals were analyzed. The bones date from the first half of MIS 3.

Veterinary issues related to bears (Ursidae)

International Zoo Yearbook, 2010
A wide variety of infectious and non‐infectious diseases has been described in bears. Some viral (e.g. canine distemper, infectious canine hepatitis), bacterial (e.g. salmon poisoning) and parasitic diseases (particularly skin mites and ascarid infections) are of concern. Non‐infectious conditions, such as dental disease, degenerative joint disease and

ENAMEL STRUCTURE OF ARCTOID CARNIVORA: AMPHICYONIDAE, URSIDAE, PROCYONIDAE, AND MUSTELIDAE [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Mammalogy, 2001
Enamel of several fossil and recent arctoid carnivores was studied with light and scanning electron microscopy. As in other carnivorans, 3 types of Hunter-Schreger bands (HSB) were observed: undulating, acute-angled, and zigzag HSB, which differ in their 3-dimensional complexity.

Denning, metabolic suppression, and the realisation of ecological opportunities in Ursidae

Mammal Review, 2021
AbstractThrough realisation of ecological opportunities, populations and species can experience relaxed selection pressures, facilitating ecological release and leading to rapid speciation and morphological diversification. Behavioural plasticity in response to environmental change contributes to diversification by exposing individuals to novel ...

Phylogeny of the bears (Ursidae) based on nuclear and mitochondrial genes

Molecular Phylogenetics and Evolution, 2004
The taxomic classification and phylogenetic relationships within the bear family remain argumentative subjects in recent years. Prior investigation has been concentrated on the application of different mitochondrial (mt) sequence data, herein we employ two nuclear single-copy gene segments, the partial exon 1 from gene encoding interphotoreceptor ...
